Will this be a downloadable ISO ? I plan to upgrade to 10, but would prefer a ISO copy if it's available....

You will have to wait and see :) No details forthcoming on this AFAIK, but not due for release until later in the year anyway. Could well be distributed via Windows Update. Time will tell!

Found this in the comments section...

Microsoft has for a long time made hints about wanting to turn their operating system from a product to a service. It makes financial sense to try to charge a small monthly or annual fee over a one time purchase. They can be like any of the other near monopolies (phone company, cable company , electric, gas ....) and charge a small connection fee, later charging for additional services or usage fees.

    Note their quote:

"Windows is no longer a static operating system but a constantly evolving service. "

“The question of, "˜What version of Windows are you running?’ will no longer be a thing," Myerson says. "Windows is a service. Users will always be up to date.â€

So your so after a few "free" upgrades operating system will be a service provided like the cable company provides service: Rendering your personal property, that is your computer, worthless without their service.

Consumers will be very foolish to accept this model.

    Food for thought.

If its offered as a service, MS would update it from Windows Update but I hope not like from Win 8 to Win 8.1

That begs a question - what if I want to make a clean install ?

If MS Windows going to be a service like Cablevision. How long before MS starts charging over $200 a month for their service just like Cablevision. Just a thought.

    Point well taken.

If the price is right, there may be some advantages to their new pricing arrangement, but I fear we may pay more in the long run.

I started out paying $6.00 a month for cablevision. When they changed the name to Optimum the prices went through the roof. I know someone who works for optimum and he says the company owners aren't going to be happy until they get at least $250-$300 a month from each household that now uses their service. MS is probably going to lose a lot of windows users if they go the service route. After all If I wanted to use a OS like Apple has I would have bought an iMac.

Strongly agree. Of course, this is all speculation at this point, but by way of comparison, the cheapest of the subscription MS Office products (Office 365) goes for $7/month; the cheapest one time installation of MS Office goes for $140--less than two full years of monthly payments. My installation of Office 2010 (June of 2010) would have ended up costing an arm and a leg if I were paying a monthly fee all this time.

From Paul Thurrot's Windows Supersite (http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/upgrade-windows-7-or-8-latest-windows-10-build), I read that it is still a beta product and should not be used for day to day work.

Given that I'm not running a server for the NSA or Google, I'd still like to give this a spin on my laptop.

For folks who HAVE installed/upgraded to Windows 10, how is it? Flakey? Buggy? Slow?

I see that they are advising users to make a backup of the OS, so I can only assume that you can't simply rollback (as in, uninstall an update): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-faq-right-for-me-pc?ocid=tp2_site_faq_down

That type of rollback would be very time consuming for me, so some time when I have a weekend to spare, I'll upgrade and get to this. There are a few things that irk me about Win7 so I'll see if they have changed them.

I installed Win 10 TP(Drive 3) on a separate drive as to not compromise my Win 7 Ult.(Drive 1) or Win 8.1(Drive 2) Pro. See System Specs.

3 drives, and 1 backup drive?

    That's pretty good.

I think I'll follow the advice above and install it on another drive. If it works well to my satisfaction, then I'll just reinstall over my Win7 partition.

I gotta say I like the idea of your device being updated for Windows 10, for its lifetime. Free upgrades for the life of my laptop is nice, although I'm most likely going to ditch it in 2 years, regardless.....

It will be interesting to see how this (service fee) plays out. What would be fair? $2.00 a month?

    You're welcome, LJ.

The last time I ran two drives, I had just installed the OS on the new one, and imported important files as well, and then days later - the older drive died. :(
