Hi prossco2. Can you boot the computer into Safe Mode successfully?

Also do you have a Windows 7 DVD that you can use to repair the operating system?

Alright then. You will need to create a Windows 7 DVD to repair the Windows 7 OS. You can find Windows 7 SP1 ISO files here, Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO Image Downloads.

Once you have downloaded the ISO file you want, download and run the portable version of Active ISO Burner and burn the Windows 7 ISO file to a DVD.

Then boot the laptop from your Windows 7 DVD and see if that works. If it does then let me know and we can go from there.

Before we repair the windows installation, if you haven't yet I would take out the hard drive and plug it into another computer as an external drive and back up all the important files.

That way in case we can't get the computer back up and running, at least the data will be safe.

Once the data is backed up, then post back with an update and I will provide instructions for steps to hopefully get Windows 7 working again without having to perform a clean install of Windows.
