When updating a program I was not on the alert and I got Istartsurf installed. Istartsurf took control over my start page. However, I managed to delete the program but by another mistake, I had named my start page http:/blank, which I was not able to change again to about:blank under Internet options. It continued to revert to http:/blank.

Then I opened Regedit: HKEY_Current_User\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and found that about:blank was the key. I closed Regedit, opened IE again, and found about:blank under my start page.

In a way, my problem was solved but under Internet Options now appeared a message saying: "Your system administrator manages some settings" and I am not able to change my start page again, as it is now locked on about:blank.
I do not have any administrator on my PC. I am the only user.

    System: WIN07 PRO SP1 with IE11.

I hope somebody has a solution to my problem.

    Best regards

Your browser has been Hijacked and you have Virus/Malware/Spyware on your PC. The best thing you can do is go to the Malware section in here and post what has happened and run the tools that are asked for and post the results.

I have reset IE but still I cannot change the start page. Same message appears under Tools/internet options: “Your system administrator manages some settings”.
I have run SpyHunter as well as SuperAntiSpyware and no malware was reported. Same report from ZA. SpyHunter managed to find the last remainings of Istartsurf.

Sounds like your computer may still be infected with some type of malware, (malicious software). Recommend starting with these instructions and then posting the requested log(s) in our Malware and Virus Removal forum.

After your computer has been given a clean bill of health by one of our malware experts, if you are still having the same issue then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help solve the problem.

I have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and having Applied Actions I can now change the start page in IE and message “Your system administrator manages some settings” has gone. Do you still recommend that I post under Malware and Virus Removal attaching the log files?

I probably would just to make sure, but, if your original problem has been resolved and you're comfortable with using your computer as is, it is your computer and decision.

Yes I do. MBAM doesn't catch everything. There are other things to run. The MBAM log should also be posted in that section as decisions can be made as to what tools to run or not run.

    But that is your call.

I followed your advise and posted under Malware and Virus Removal. It turned out that the problem had not been solved completely by MBAM as IE returned to about:blank as my start page after reopening IE, so it was only the message about administrator rights that had gone.
Thank you to both MrBill and SpywareDR. You were both right about the infection of my PC.
Further thank you to this great site from which I have managed to get great help from during my 12 years membership.

Problem is in the Malware section, nobody has helped you yet. Still don't know if you are 100% clean. Wait for their response in there.

My computer has been declared clean by Broni so this case can be closed.
