Have you tried running without Addons?
Click Firefox top left of screen > Help > Start with Addons Disabled.
Let's know if your problem still occurs. Neil.

That's a setting which I have never touched. In fact, I did not, even, know where it was. It seems to be: Use system proxy setting by default. And, it has worked like a charm.

What? Your own settings, or changing to the one I listed? Regardless, I changed my setting to "auto detect proxy ", then restarted the browser, and it stayed with that setting. If it is not an addon messing with the settings, I don't know what is.
But, if it changes, randomly, to manual, you would have to enter something, or else you would not be able to access the internet. At least, I think so.

I have my browser set to auto which will change after about 5 minutes to manual @ that point I will not be able to access the net unless I change it back to auto or no proxy.

Did you try running it with add-ons disabled as retiredlearner suggested earlier? If so, what happened?

    Have you tried reinstalling Firefox?

Since it's happening with a second browser, I suspect malware.

Read these instructions, then follow them to post in our Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Remember that uninstalling may not accomplish your aims. The problem may be in your profile. So, consider uninstalling, and rebooting. Then, reinstalling, and see what happens. Then, create a new profile, and try again. In this case it may be quite a job to get everything back. But, the fact that Opera is acting up makes me wonder.

I agree with Miz's suspicions and I suspect your wondering westside, however I read Anthony's post as reinstalling the OS.

Anthony, If you only reinstalled the browser or performed a repair install of the OS then follow Miz's advice please.

Check if any of the anti-spyware programs you use has a setting that prevents changes to certain browser settings.
