Hi,this is my first post. Thanks for the opportunity to be lid of this wonderful forum. I have read the forum and posting rules and I will confirm to them to my best knowledge; otherwise I will correct myself of course. I have searched for about a week for the following problem that I have; in Google, yahoo, this forum among others without success. Possible there is somewhere a thread with the same problem, but I have tried so many keywords or short combinations without any luck.

I have this laptop for about 6 years and never had this problem before; until 10 days ago my neighbor asked if she can look in her email because her PC has wurms and does not work. I did not think it was a good idea but being unfortunately the nice guy who I am; I said Okey. I was the whole time nervous what was going to happen. After about 20 minutes looking for her emails; she spent about 1/2 hour searching the web looking for something and clicking a lot on the mouse, and that was that :(

Sorry if I bore you with these personal detail but they are actually the background of the problem. And I am not posting this to blame my neighbor; everything is alright. I just need, if possible, your help or that of others!

The problem is that The cursor can be present everywhere whenever I open a website online!I try to explain what I mean. If I open Google, Hotmail or my mail in Yahoo for example to search or log in, normally is the cursor ONLY present in the search or inlog boxes, say for keywords or user name and password. But the cursor now can be every where on the screen; whenever I move the POINTER and click on the screen, where is text, begins the cursor to blink for the same size as the letter next to it. I found it really very strange and I was afraid that I was infected with a wurm.

I tried my best to solve the problem with no avail. I scanned my system with 5 different antivirus, antimalware, antispyware and anti adware but nothing was found on my system. Performance stays also the same, fast and with no problems with Operating System Windows XP. The programs that I used are: Malwarebytes, AntiSuperspyware, Spywareblaster, Avira my regular antivirus and IObit Security 360.

If there are more information needed I will be glad to provide them. Thanks very kindly:confused:

Hi Ram and welcome to the WindwosBBS,

Try looking in My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > and see that "Double-click to open an item" box is checked and not single-click.

If that's no help, you may have some malware infection and will need to post a request in the proper forum for that.

Hi RAM (nice username ;)) Welcome to WindowsBBS.

This is normal behaviour (at least with Firefox) is it possibly you just haven't noticed it before?

Good evening Wildlife; I use Firefox and search in Google a lot but I never saw the cursor outside the boxes. I hope you are wright! At the same time I checked with 2 other computers also and saw that the cursor is ONLY present in the search box, website address bar; and in the boxes for password or user name in Yahoo and Hotmail for the mail page. So I took the pointer to other places on the screen and clicked. There was no cursor or any thing. In comparison on my laptop, If I click the pointer on the full screen when I open any website like I have described in my post; the cursor can be all over the screen, when you click the pointer.

    Fair enough,

All I can say is if I click my mouse anywhere where there is text the cursor appears, this may be an individual setting per system but personally I wouldn't be too concerned unless you notice other issues.

BTW It's wildfire not wildlife ;) but you can call me Paddy if you prefer :)

Hi Surferdude2, I checked the settings and they are Ok. So as you said its better then to post the thread on the Malware forum; probably that is what you meant! At the same time as you may have read the post of Wildfire; he says that the cursor by him is also outside the boxes. But for me I would like to play it safe and post the other post. I also have checked it on other computers and that was not the case.

Fair enough I'm probably misunderstanding your post...

It won't do any harm to get your system checked out, please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.

Thanks Paddy, nice name too! :) Sorry for accidentally misspelling your other name Wildfire! As for my post I am going to study the links in your last post the coming days and post thread accordingly; it is now becoming late. I am afraid that my doubts are going to be confirmed. I knew it I should have not done it! It is a good lesson and will be surely a good computer lesson during the process of fixing it. Cheers!

Maybe I have misunderstood you, but see if this might fix your problem. Go to start "“control panel "“ mouse "“ pointer options and make sure that the Snap To box is checked. That will automatically move your pointer to the default button in a dialog box.

    Hi Ram,
I wonder if you or another has set your browser to allow "Caret Browsing ". Apparently there are users who would rather use the keyboard to maneuver and select text text on web Pages. This service is enabled or disabled via the F7 key on the keyboard. Try pressing this and see if it offers to turn on "Caret Browsing ". I think the second F7 hit turns it off.

    See:
Google hits on the topic of Caret Browsing

    Good evening goddez1,

You had a good shot at that cursor:) Thanks a lot That F7 key did the trick as you suggested. To be sure I rebooted and tried different URLs and to my great happiness and amazement at the same time the cursor was no where to be seen except where it actually should be: in the designated bars. I am so very happy now because I do not have a wurmy laptop:D

It is a great forum here, great people and I might be sticking around!

    Regards
