Last week I had one of those scare popups claiming I had some viruses. It used my security center (Control Panel) backdrop has it's message platform. Flashing the so-called viruses in red, then popped up the standard download window asking me if I wanted to save the file.?

I killed the browser and did several scans from rep sources. Nothing seems to have been affected. I also ran MS Malware again ......OK. (On doing some detective work, Netstat and Tracert gives me some company in Reno up to no good.)

But all this reinforces what I have been trying to get implemented for years, and that is a signature based communication system. Trying to get MS to budge on anything is frustrating.

Yahoo uses this for it's mail (after I thought of it). What I had in mind is that any window that MS calls needs to display the user's selected icon or signature.

On installing the op system, the user must select a thumbnail or icon of limited size that when entered is codified. The original picture is not saved anywhere on the PC but is used has a template. When the code is created the pic is not used and is destroyed. The user will be informed of this beforehand and he is suggested that he keeps this pic in off system storage media, CD etc, but never on the computer. The code can be any algorithm method of MS choosing. One such way would be to take the actual pixel in numeric coordinance and coded to something else, perhaps using filename or cheksum has a seed.

Every time MS needs to "talk" to the user thru a MS window using standard methods, the window must display this image which is created on the fly with a program, but never displayed in it's raw form by means of a programming language command. The PC's capture screen methods and keylogging would need to be disabled. SSL would need to be used in appropriate areas.

This is a rough generalization, and detailed and security would have to be studied to implement such a system using a safe method.

My installed anti virus system communicates to me occasionally. I suggested to them they use this method also because I get a message asking me to click this or that. How do I know I'm not uploading through a renegade program and a bogus window.?

Frankly, I've never trusted MS, and that started when they refused to implement a "favored client list" in their e-mail systems (Inclusion List). This way for those who have say 10 contacts ever, they needn't set up an Exclusion Filter, which allows everyone else not listed to spam you.
They refuse to do so because of pandering to the demands of advertisers who would protest that their ads don't get through.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

So seeing my fake ID plastered on Your screen right before I have my way with you is going to make you feel better.....I would think you'd rather I buy you dinner afterwords:p

Microsoft is one of a few million companies that have access to the internet - what about all of the other ones?

    Hi Andy,

I don't know what MS email client you use but it is very simple to set up an inclusion list using contacts with any I've used

Must be a new implementation, (new in terms of years). Probably took that long to get to the bottom of their in basket and my suggestion. :D

    Yeah, very new.

    At least from OE6.

Andy I'm no fan of microsoft myself but fairytales like these don't help anyone.

    Thanks for the welcome.

    :)

In this case, since your buying, I'd be concerned your credit card isn't maxed out. :D

Actually we follow this form of identity verification in captcha, except this time the "captcha" of sorts is required by the user who's the one who's potentially in trouble.

I was implying MS op systems. It would be a good system for them too.

Actually no. This was a common beef in the earlier days. You needed a third party add on for that implementation. Watson comes to mind, but I can't be sure.

I recall I tried to get a response from MS on my idea of an inclusion list, but they never responded.

FYI, these malware are very common, but they do not use the actual Security Center on your computer at all. The malware is coded with its own graphical user interface that resembles Security Center. Chance are you still have malware on your comp too because most antivirus programs cannot remove this type of virus. To be sure, install MalwareBytes free version, update it and do a scan.

    Better yet:

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Malwarebytes(AR02010_bt.exe) is a registry cleaner, found 1000 issues and cleaned 100, now it wants payment to clean up the remainder.

Mirror1 was successful, Mirror 2 presented textual garbage. No facility in Mozilla to fix this, doesn't appear to be script oriented, so it must have originated from the sender.

That's as far as I got.

Exactly, a lack of a window signature fits right in to all these identity problems.

Malwarebytoe AntiMalware is a free program, the paid version allows auto updating and other features. Bot have same capability to remove malware, no restrictions. Neither are a registry cleaner, both will remove known malware registy keys and values.

AR02010_bt.exe is NOT Malwarebytes. It's possible the malware you have is hijacking the malwarebytes process.

Your best bet is to follow Arie's advice above.

OK I created Andy's I and II threads on that forum, thanks.

ar2010 is a sammsoft. They seem legit. I'm trying to figure out how that got into the picture. Without backtracking through that gauntlet I think they must have had an ad somewhere in the Malwarebytes series of links and their download button was just as large as the main page. I gotta be more careful.

    Interesting, thanks.

Who sponsors MyWot and who are it's competition?

I'm not saying they are not with the good guys as I did no research on them, (some affiliation with WhoIs and could be same outfit) but we need to be careful here also.

For instance in doing a Virus Checker review just recently, one showed a product as mid way on the grid on specific categories. A completely different non affiliated site showed it has second best in the same categories. The irony is they took the same graphic grid outline has the previous site to display it, and didn't even try to bother to cover their tracks.

So I take these with a grain of salt. :)
