Epson S21 printer, displays ink cartridge icons, fails to show ink level for any of the four cartridge icons.
I have tried by re-installing the S21 driver, without success.
Any help to resolve this error will be most appreciated.

Compatible cartridges. Reinstalled software, levels still not shown.
If this error can not be solved, how can you know which colour or if black cartridge has run out?

I see that there are 2 drivers available - the Admin Pack from which the Status Monitor has been removed and the Driver which presumably includes the Status Monitor - I guess you installed the latter?

Did this problem start when you switched to compatibles or before? If coincident with compatibles that may be the answer.

Did you follow Epson's instructions when loading the driver?

Delete the printer - uninstall all Epson software - reboot and then follow the instructions for installing the printer? Generally software first to the point where you are requested to power up the printer to enable detection and the loading of the driver within Windows.

My experience of Epson printers ranges from the 1270 through the 1290 to the 2400 which I currently use.
Run a nozzle check - the empty colour will be missing from the printout. However if the colour is empty you may not be able to do that as the printer generally refuses to print if a colour is exhausted.

If the cartridges are self sealing substituting each colour in turn may be your only chance.

I will try to answer your questions.
As far as I can remember, since buying the Epson S21, the ink levels have not shown on screen.
The printer shows under the remove screen, but has no size of software shown and clicking uninstall has no effect. Using Revo uninstaller, the driver is not shown at all.
I will try to down load driver from your web address, but to uninstal the current driver is proving difficult.
    Thanks.

Under Printer & Faxes in XP - delete the printer, or

Under Devices & Printers in 7 - delete printer

The Epson printer software should show up in Add/Remove programs (XP) or Programs and Features (7).

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :) Would at least know your OS :)

    Computer HP Presario CQ5114uk.
Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit.
    Printer S21 Stylus.

I managed to uninstal S21 driver 6.62, reinstalled and checked updates, it shows latest driver installed.

Devices & Printers > Right clicked S21 Printer Icon> Printer Properties> General> Preferences> click Status Monitor 3 icon> Shows Cartridge icons> No levels shown> click information shows cartridge Manufacturers & date.
    Manufacturers show as Epson.

    Levels still not show.

Well, miracles do seem to happen, as today the Epson S21 now displays the ink levels. Hoping it is permanent.
Only additional step undertaken after a long thought, was to re-instal the current black coloured cartridge (compatible) and ensure the cartridge was securely seated.
My thanks PeteC, for interest shown, together with suggestions.
