I have an older game Hoyle Texas Holdem (2005) that used to play just fine on my system but now I have no sound. I have sound with every other application just not with Hoyle.

I have uninstalled the program, cleaned the system, reinstalled and no luck.

I ran as administrator, no luck
    XP compatibility, no luck
administrator and xp compatibility, no luck

My wife loves this game and i want it to work for her.

    Any ideas?

If you cant select a sound 'emulator' in the game, I'd try running it in a VPC with Windows XP (assuming you're trying to run this game in Vista).

Thanks Arie, I'll give that a try. If that doesn't work I suppose I'll just have to stop being so cheap and replace this 2005 game.:)

I downloaded VPC and it doesn't support Vist Home Premium. I've tried everything I can think of, still no sound in this application. Oh well, guess my wife will have to find a different game.

Just get a newer version, since yours is 2005.
    check their website! http://www.hoylegaming.com/games.php

    My suggestion....
There is this page "www.pokerrpg.com ", the community of poker player is not bad, web based. Cons is very simple graphic.
Or one more suggestion is with nice graphic in "http://game.ijji.com/poker/index.nhn" but need to install a small application in order to play.

Currently playing the pokerrpg because web base and easier to play in any pc i go better than downloading the ijji file :p

both is using fake money (for fun), and playing online with real players is better than AI Always! and i suggest your wife try out the ijji link i provide above.

PS: do take care of her in case she get addicted to it ^^

    enjoy :)

No volume control. just on or off. I emailed their support but never got a response other than the autoreply.

I looked at their forums. No one has posted to the Hoyle Poker Series in a year (I dropped a new post in today)

Thanks for the link. They have a Texas Holdem (which is what she plays). I may download the trial to see if the sound works. Chong (wife) wouldn't want to play online. She doesn't play that often but prefers the setup she's got.

Success! I downloaded an updated driver from Realtek, installed and now I have sound. Don't understand why the only problem with sound was with this game:confused: but I guess it doesn't matter now - all is working fine.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    I spoke too soon

You know, something really weird happened. The sound disappeared again. I restored the system to when I installed the new driver and it works again.

I really don't know what is happening to drop the sound but I found out its not only Hoyle thats losing sound. It's also Avast. I usually tells me it updated the database but a few hours ago the little blue box came up but - no announcement.

I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and try the game every few hours and see if it loses sound again and then check the event viewer to see is something untoward happend.
