Hi, I am new on windowsbbs :)

My internet security detected that I have infostealer gampass and backdoor.SDBot on my computer.

I have looked around in the forum and find many threads about Backdoor.SDBot, but this is the first virus I have ever had so I don't know very much how to deal with this.

I would really appreciate responses that are easy to understand for a beginner in this area.

The things I have done is this:

-read information of the problem on different sites, they discribe both a automatic solution and a manual: witch is best? (I did not understand all of it though, I am running vista32 but the step by step I found were most for xp)

    -disconnect to internet

-run a full system search with norton internet security 2009

-run malaware and virus (spyhunter and other) removal program; they did detect and remove infected files, but can I trust that they are gone or do I have to remove them manualy?

If I use the recovery manager to completly restore my computer does that guarantee success? If not could you please tell me what to do step by step

    Sincerely

Please read this and post the required logs.

Nothing's guaranteed and do you really want to take such drastic action?

BTW I'm not one of the malware experts but I'm sure once you post the info requested one of them will pick up on this thread and assist.

    Hi knight,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

What version of Norton Internet Security are you using and are you sure that your subscription is still active? Please let me know.

The most important steps you can take to prevent infection are to make sure that you do not have any other third-party real-time scanning applications besides Norton Internet Security, or they can cause conflicts and leave your computer vulnerable to attack. Secondly you should make sure that Norton Internet Security is fully updated with the latest application and definition updates applied. You should schedule at least Weekly "Full System Scans" at a time when you are not using your computer as well.

As far as the "Backdoor.Sdbot" infection, follow the instructions in the link below to update, re-scan and manually remove anything left behind.

    Removal of Backdoor.Sdbot infection

Please follow the instructions in the following link to remove remnants of the "Infostealer.gamepass" infection that may still be present on your computer.

    Thank you,
    Mike
