My HP J5780 All in One Printer prints all pictures in black and white, including color pitcures. When printing documents it prints color just fine. I've checked my printer settings and they are all good and my color management settings are all set to default. Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing my problem?

What software are you using to view and print pictures? Check the print options in that software - In my Corel Photopaint I have an option to print grayscale which overrides the printer settings.

    I'm using Windows Picture Viewer

Thank you Mitchell, I'm using Windows Picture Viewer and I've checked the settings in my printer and in Color Management in the Control Panel. Everything is set correctly. I'm beginning to think this is an unsolvable problem, but if by chance you have any thoughts other than what I just mentioned, it would be terrific.

I'll do some more thinking and in the meantime maybe someone will drop by with some more suggestions.

    Thank you

I really appreciate your efforts. I wish there was some way I could return the favor, but I'm only an intermediate user.

If you have not already tried this route I suggest you follow it .....

Uninstall the printer and all associated software, reboot and reinstall following the manufactuter's instructions to the letter.

Would be wise to check for updated drivers/software at HP.

    HP J5780 Printer

Thank you Pete, I think I've done this but I'll try it again. Before I do it again please tell me what is meant by "all associated software ".

Printers often come with software to enable them to do all the tasks they are designed for - such as fax software, scanning software, etc.

I would uninstall everything associated with HP in Add/Remove Programs, provided that you do not have other HP software installed as you would have on an HP computer. That's about as precise as I can be.

You are Fantastic, Thank you -- very very much!!!

Pete, after your last reply I went into my programs folder to see what else I might uninstall along with the printer. They have 2 other things, one of which is the HP Photosmart Essential. I simply went into those printer settings and, sure enough, they were set for Black and White. I changed it to color then went into my picture viewer and printed a picture. It printed in Color.

I have to tell you I wasted hours and hours of my time with HP's email tech support and they could not fix it, but you gave me information which enabled me to fix it. You have no idea how relieved I am.

Again I will say, if there is ever any way I can help you, please be sure to let me know immediately, if not sooner.

    HP J5780 printer

Thank you Mitch for being willing to put your thiniking cap on but PeteC suggested something which made me realize I have HP Photosmart Essential packaged with my printer software. I went into those printer settings and sure enough they were set to Black and White. I set it for color and the problem is solved.

I'm tickled you got it fixed. I would assume Windows Picture Viewer was using the settings for Photosmart to print the pics. Happy Printing.

    It wasn't fixed, I made a mistake.

    Hi Pete,

I made a mistake when I said I fixed it. It wasn't fixed yet so I decided to do exactly what you suggested. I uninstalled the printer along with all associated software in the add/remove programs folder. You were right, this fixed the problem. I know it's fixed because I checked it multiple times. I'm updating you so that if you ever have another person with this problem you can give them the correct information, as you did with me. I wouldn't want you telling someone to do what I said I did the first time, when I only thought I fixed the problem. Take good care of yourself and thanks again for hanging in there with me.
