    Hello good people,

    Here's the issue:

    1. When I restart my machine, I get " Recycle Bin on drive C: is corrupted. Do you want to empty the recycle bin for this drive? "

    2. The recycle bin remains empty even though I unchecked " Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" option in the properties. Files get deleted without going to recycle bin.

    3. I downloaded and run latest Service Pack 3 but it didn't fix the issue.

    4. Some folks believe this may be due to INFO2 file corruption. I tried to delete "recycler" hidden folder for Windows XP to re-create automatically but it's now allowing me saying "Cannot remove folder Dc55: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected "

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hello 810311,

Looks like MrBill "kellys links" particularly the 2nd one will have every reference that you need except one:

The file name you mentioned "Dc55" has been known to be connected to a critter virus/malware/adware. Although not always this cannot be ignored and should be eliminated as a possibility. If you are 100% positive that you are not infected you may wish to ignore my warning. If there is any possibility that infection has occurred you need to :
Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in theMalware and Virus Removal forum.

    -----------------
My suggestion was going to be:
    1
    Restart your computer.
At the Windows startup screen, press the F8 key. Several options will appear on your screen. Select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt. "Your screen should now show a command prompt, or "C:\." If you see something else, you may be in the Windows directory. Type the command "CD\" and press Enter. This should bring you to "C:\. "
    2
Type "attrib -s -h recycler" and press Enter. This command tells Windows to give you access to the protected file.
    3
Type the command "del recycler" and press Enter. This entry will delete your corrupt Recycle Bin.
    4
Restart your computer. Windows will detect the missing Recycle Bin and create a new one.

    Hi Mr Bill,

I tried those links before - they didn't fix it. Not sure if I did something wrong but I tried.

    Hi goddez1,

I am getting an error when trying in command prompt. Please, see below

    C:\>attrib--s--h recycler
'attrib--s--h' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

You are missing a couple of spaces I believe.
Space between the b and the first - and also between the s and the -

    attrib --s --h recycler

    Here's what I have now.

    C:\>attrib --s --h recycler
    Parameter format not correct -

Can it be because the syntax is "C:\>..... "? Should it be "C:\......." without ">" symbol.....? Just guessing....And if so, how to get rid of ">" symbol....?

    use single minus signs:
Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each line:

    attrib -s -h recycler
    del recycler

    C:\>attrib -s -h recycler

    C:\>del recycler
    C:\recycler\*, Are you sure (Y/N)? Y

    C:\>

After I type "Y" and press enter, nothing happens - I still have corrupt recycle bin after I restart my machine.

    Hello 810311,

How you coming along on this. I see you posted via another forum:
    http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=114750.0
and was able to delete the bin, as did here, but the error for a "corrupted" bin still comes up on boot up. You given instructions and a link to follow this up by using Microsoft "Fixit" site tool. Did you do this?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2394521

I also suggested that this may indicate a virus and that possibility should be eliminated. Did you do that? Our malware/adware/virus forum is excellent, bar none, with trained members in cleaning in such. Just be sure you truly want to invest some time and effort in cleaning and removal. Both your time and our members time is much to valuable to be trifled with.

Point is, you seem to be a bit nervous about doing various things in a attempt to fix the problem. This may be causing you to pick and choose what you do, passing over a method that may well be the one you need.

    FYI------------------
You do realize that dc55 is "directory c file number 55" as being kept and dialogged in the info dat file for recycle bin. It is this file that is giving you fits. See:

    Hello goddez1,

1.Yes, I tried what was suggested on another forum at http://www.computerhope.com/forum/in...topic=114750.0 and followed steps at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2394521 receiving the following error:

    C:\>rd /s C:\recycler
    C:\recycler, Are you sure (Y/N)? Y
    C:\recycler\S-1-5-~1\Dc55 - Access is denied.

    2. As to virus/malware removal, please, see steps taken here
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,114150.msg767309.html#msg767309. I really appreciate help given by SuperDave.

    3. As to my being "a bit nervous about doing various things in an attempt to fix the problem ", point taken.

    4. As to your last link about data file http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;136517 I am getting the following errors:

    C:\>cd recycled
The system cannot find the path specified.

    C:\>

    C:\>attrib -s -h recycled
    File not found - recycled

    C:\>

When I try same command only with "˜recycler" instead of "recycled" I get the following and when I restart my machine recycler bin still corrupt.

    C:\>attrib -s -h recycler

    C:\>del recycler
    C:\recycler\*, Are you sure (Y/N)? Y

    C:\>

    Hi 810311,

So at the beginning or starting point of problem, you were infected. Please understand that while it looks like you were in good at "computer Hope" I noticed that there were a couple of inconsistencies and a lack of followup in a couple of area. My suspicion is that this was rootkit based and, in being so, one little slip and your infection will rebound and get you again. See:
    http://www.google.com/search?source...&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=f478bdfafcb0c911

Also not being thorough in registry cleanup, as well, can be just as much trouble in the nuisance area.

My point is, I am not comfortable nor confident that you have been cleaned completely. Therefore I suggest that you (as painful as it may seem) do as I previously suggested and take a spin through our own forum. Include link to the previous other site forum cleanup or include link to this one. It may be as simple as registry permission and deletion but virus forum experts can best determine and walk you thru the process of removing it. They would most be familiar with spybot/avg/comodo/malwarebytes settings, particularly spybots "inoculate" and removing any File access denials

You have deleted the bin multiple times and, if I remember correctly, the info file. Deletions worked but error and folder remain on reboot. This is due to permissions restrictions. If you have followed to the letter and done this while logged into the administrators profile deleted all bins on all drives including the
info file we need to make sure you are not still infected. Critters like to hide in the bin.

    Hi 810311,

Looks like I lost you for a bit. Frankly I was hoping Broni would find and fix your problem while doing the cleaning. Guess, by this post that did not happen. I will have to get back to you on this issue since it looks like I will have to review older status and check out your other posts in the virus forum.

In the mean time if any other member can come up with a good idea or other things to try by all means please step in and give a helping hand.

    Hang in there.....

Download BlitzBlank and save it to your desktop.
    Double click on Blitzblank.exe

    • Click OK at the warning (and take note of it, this is a VERY powerful tool!).
    • Click the Script tab and copy/paste the following text there:
    Code:
    DeleteFile:
    C:\recycler

    • Click Execute Now. Your computer will need to reboot in order to replace the files.
    • When done, post the report created by Blitzblank.
You can find it in the root of the drive, normally C:\
