ok, I am not able to update to service pack 2 or 3. This is after I have finally removed all of the trojans and viruses. Made a mistake and tried to install ie8 also, which will not work without sp2. The error message that I am getting reads "The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll." The title for it is "iexplore.exe - Entry Point Not Found ". I am willing to do some remote assistance if anyone has the time, or some extra clear instructions would be great. Thanks.

also, using system restore makes me nervous because of all of the trojans that have been removed.

Were you assisted in Mailware and Virus removal on this site? If so what username did you use? If not who assisted you, and what did they do?

No one on this site helped me remove any malicious programs. I used spybot and avira antivir. I'm just assuming that I removed them all. The other thread I had posted on was "Windows XP will not load, constant reboot." I was able to get windows to load, but my biggest problem is now I am not able to update anything. Also I used the same user name, Panda24. Thanks

And in that thread I advised you to pay a visit to Malware and Virus Removal, remember to read this first.

    panda24,

That advice still stands, wait until you get the all clear from an expert before messing further with your system.
