    Lets check the Service:

This is if you have a CD burning program installed:

Click Start, Administrative Tools, then Services.
Scroll down to the "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service ", right click it and click Properties.
Set the Startup type to Manual, !Click Apply!, Then click Start.

Press OK and we've enabled the CD burning service, install a CD burning program, and you should be able to write CDs. When you reboot, the service won't be started at boot, but when you try to burn a CD it will start (and when you are finished with the CD the service will stop again).

If you do not have a CD burning program installed then:

Click Start, Administrative Tools, then Services.
Scroll down to the "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service ", right click it and click Properties.
Set the Startup type to Automatic, !Click Apply!, Then click Start.

It would help if you would post the Burning Software installed on your computer - Nero, Roxio ..... or just the native XP burning engine (CD only)?

Have you checked on the Recording tab for each optical drive (Right click > Properties) that Enable recording on this drive is checked?

    Your post includes ....
Suggests you have InCd or similar loaded - if so try removing it and see if the problem is resolved.

well Pete glad to hear you ... I beleve that the question is not as simpel as i image

my favorite buring software is roxio ( 6 or 8 ) nero is in war with ( you know ... )
    i tried burn4free ....... cdburnerXP ..... isobuster ...

what i wondering is that the inclused file in xp-pro isnt working
note that the the device manager dont make any indication , so ?

when i go in a comand promt ( driverquery /fo svc /si ) all drivers are on ' true ' so i'm wondering how to repair , note the hardware dont give's any indication of faulty working , where ever i look

    if i don't find a solution i do have a format c:\ , the 2 time in 14 days , so i do hate format

do you have a idee ?? thx :)

You should have only one item of third party burning software installed - Roxio or Nero or .... to avoid conflicts.

In all the years I ran XP I never used the inbuilt XP burning software, but I have a feeling that it is disabled when third party burning software is installed.

    As I posted earlier ....
As you have more than one burner have you selected the recorder to burn to in your burning software? You have to in Nero which is my choice for burning.
If you have formatted the drive and re-installed XP without resolving the problem repeating the operation is unlikely to make any difference.

After format did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard?

Have you tried disconnecting two of the optical drives and burning to the remaining one? Not quite sure why you need 3 optical drives installed. Maybe I misunderstand you and you have only one drive installed at a time and none of the drives will burn.

Have these drives been able to burn in the past?
