Resolved Can't install .netframework 3.5 SP1

    Hi all, Happy Holidays to you.
    My laptop running windows xp media crashed a coule of weeks ago. It is runnng windows xp, 1gig memory 80 gig HHD HP dv5130us computer. I did a system recovery that came on the partition D on the hard drive and all seemed well, until I tried to install roxio 2010. During installation it tried to install .NET FRAMWORK 3.5 SP1 and I got this error:

    ".NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 Framework installation failed with error 1603 "
    I went to microsoft website to see if there was anything I could do to solve this problem and must of the things I did not understand. Can someone help me here with this? I checked in control panel add & remove programs and I noticed that I do have .net framework 1.1 and thats it.:(

    I went to microsoft and on the link supplied and I tried everything they recomende and I could not get this thing going. However, I ran recovery system again from the partitioned section of the drive and everything seems to be ok now. I could install the .Net framework 3.5 SP1. I guess something a file or more was badly corruped but things are fine now. I did get to install my roxio 2010.

    Hi dleonr,

    Don't worry too much but if your HD was corrupted with such a fresh installation you may wish to verify the drive. Use the relevant tool for your HD manufacturer from below to perform a non-destructive test.

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

    Fujitsu

    If you can't determine the manufacturer of your drive then please complete your system details it could save a lot of time when resolving this or further issues.

    As I said don't worry too much but with such an early problem I'd be concerned and it is better to be safe than sorry.

    EDIT: Irrelevant, please ignore this post. Advice is valid but in this case probably inapplicable.

    Hi wildfire,

    How much "pull" do you have with the powers-that-be? :rolleyes:

    The reason I ask is because the links you posted for disk diagnostics was something I was looking for, and, of course, couldn't find.

    I'd like to see a listing for "Tools" on the left menu that includes the links you posted as well as other tools I've seen others post to help diagnose problems (like HJT, malwarebytes, etc.).

    Any possibilities?

    I think it is a good idea, I will run diagnostics on the drive.
