Hello all. Had this problem for a while now. Not serious just annoying. After a power cut xp pro sp2 anounced on start up that my partition E: needed to be checked. Fine. BUT it does it on every start (xp blue screen). Thing is I can't defrag E: because "chk dsk is sheduled to run, please run chkdsk exe ". No matterwhat I:) do in the way of running things you can't defrag E: I have even been into the registry , following advice, but all was as it should be. E: has not been dfraged for two years now.
I would LOVE to fix this problem. I have tried other forums but no luck so far. Thanks all. BB

    Properties-Tools-Check now
    Check both boxes.

    Report exactly what happens now.

Well now I am impressed! The machine spent 460,000,000 years doing its disk thing and finished without comment. Next start problem fixed! Thanks a lot a simple and straight forward fix. I wish I had thought of it. XP is so stable I've never used safe mode, I forgot it was there! Thanks again. BB

yeah just asked it to defrag and it sez I should. So yes all fixed. As I said after all the hard stuff that has been tried it nice to see sa simple fix do the job. I must remember safe mode when things get gritty. Not that they do much these days. Now 98.ThenI used to live in safe mode! Thank you again. BB
