    Hi,

I have noticed that when I login to Vista my taskbar says network cable unplugged. I have one flashing monitor icon in the taskbar and another indicating a disconnect (I hope you're all familiar with those icons, can't describe them).

Anyway, my network lost the connection all of a sudden. All I could do was reset the modem or get new IP settings using Windows Diagnose when looking at my network connections in Control Panel (I am using Vista Home Premium BTW).

When trying to turn off my PC I got a BSOD saying driver irq not less or equal. I had to restore an image from a day earlier to get the PC up and running so no dumps, but can someone help diagnose this behaviour?

Windows has a hotfix for a known network cable unplugged issue, but when I tried to install this it said there was some sort of error or misconfiguration and the installation rolls back. This is a hotfix so the PC reboots then I get this message before the user selection screen comes up.

    Thanks

I would look at reinstalling or updating the drivers for the ethernet (LAN) adapter. Other possibilities are the modem or just the connection to the ISP dropping out. If you have a shared phone/dsl connection, check there is no static on the phone connection. I get static and my dsl connection drops out occasionally after heavy rain.
