    Hi,

I'm curious what your opinion concerning Windows Sidebar is. I read a few forum posts on the Internet that it was a memory hog. Is it really so or does it depend upon how many gadgets are installed?
Should I worry about a drop of performance when I'm running Vista with 3GB of RAM.
    Your input would be appreciated.

Hi Ralfska. I have used the Windows Sidebar on my system and I find it can be useful depending on what gadgets you have installed. For example I have a weather gadget and a CPU/RAM usage gadget which are both very helpful. I do find that if you have more than 4 gadgets running then windows sidebar will slow down your computer a bit. Since you have 3 GB of RAM you probably won't notice much of a speed decrease when you have it running. :)

    OK, I'm running these gadgets:

    • DU Meter
    • All CPU Meter
    • Clock
    • Calender
    • 3 weather gadgets

3 instances of sidebar.exe are running & using:
    • 11,760K
    • 10,448K
    • 992K

    Total 22.65MB (Private Working Set).

Not something I'm concerned about & I have only 2GB of RAM. CPU usage is nearly non existent.

I use the clock gadget without the sidebar, which I don't particularly like. Haven't tried other gadgets freestanding;suspect they may work that way; my vista is down today for a mobo replacement, so can't personally check. Anyone know?
