I have been running out of space on my PC drive. Total 103GB. Free space 11GB. Checking all files I established pagefile.sys is 8.291.872KB and hiberfile.sys 6.218.904KB.
Reading other threads I changed setting on sleeping mode to never, but the hiberfile.sys file did not change in size.
Having restarted my PC a couple of times the pagefile and hibefile was exactly the same sizes.
I run WIN7, SP1 on Dell PC with 8GB ram and PC is running at same speed as purchased at start of this year.

Hi mariola. Do you want to disable hibernation on Windows 7 or would you like to figure out what programs and files are taking up the most disk space?

If its the latter then download TreeSize Free and it will help identify which directories are taking up the most space.

Hi Evan Omo. I did run TreeSizeFree in order to establish size of Pagefile and Hiberfile but overlooked that updating my GPS had left 9GB on my PC. So these 9GB have now been released. So in a way 20% free space is acceptable.
But why does the size of Pagefile and Hiberfile not change and what purpose do the two files have. I thought hibernation had something to do with sleeping mode which I am not really interested in.

Thanks for teaching me on computer elements, which I have never been aware of, despite almost 30 years of computer usage. The articles explains clearly what the files are for.

Sure thing. Are you still in need of freeing up more disk space or would you consider this issue resolved?
