Resolved Windows Update not working after Re-imaging System

    As indicated in my previous post the restore of my system image went well and as far as I knew everything was running as it should. However ---- I happened to run an Windows update check and found it would not check. The message said "Windows cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer "
    Went to task manager and checked under "services" and it showed updates was in fact running. Rebooted but no change.
    Went to a lot of forums but unable to find my solution.
    I'm assuming it wouldn't help to run my "system image" disk again in hopes that maybe there was a missing or corrupted file in my first restoration

    One other thing about update problem. If I click on "update history" it shows none. Wondering if that means I have no updates at all. :eek:

    Please post the last 70-100 lines of your WindowsUpdate.log.

    Press your Windows key + R and type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in the Open box, then press OK.

    Downloaded installed and rebooted computer. However still says cannot check for updates - service is not running.
    Had the system specs listed but forgot to allow them to display. :eek:

    "Downloaded Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver. "
    Wasn't able to install this file. Something about a "TEXTSETUP ".OEM type file.

    I'm wondering if this problem might possibly be caused by Windows not recognizing the installation as a legal copy even tho I used the Microsoft Disk Image program to copy and install my programs to a new HD ?

    Can you tell me which Chipset is on your motherboard?

    Once you get the correct Intel RST driver installed, good chance the error will be resolved.

    It's the standard message you get when Windows can't open a particular file.
    " You are attempting to open a file of type 'System file' (.SYS) Etc

    Hmmm... only suggestion I can make is that you install all Dell drivers for your Inspiron 560.

    After you done the above, download & run the Farbar Service Scanner

    Tick all boxes except
    • Windows Defender
    • Other Services

    Copy and paste the report to your response.
