My System

BSOD Ntfs.sys

I have been getting BSOD with the following information:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: Ntfs.sys

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00000000000c08a5, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000,
0x0000000000000000)

*** Ntfs.sys - Address 0xfffff880014311d5 base at 0xfffff8800142f000 DateStamp

Any ideas as to what is causing this as also I have had 2 mentioning the ntoskrnl.exe and as this laptop is new I need to find out what is going on.

Hi paulbristow. Take a look here, Windows NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM error.

Does the blue screen error happen randomly or does it occur when you boot into Windows 7?

My System
Most likely one of two things: RAM or Hard Disk.

Start by testing your memory. Run Memtest86 or Windows Memory Diagnostic.

Windows 7 DVD also includes a memory testing option called Windows Memory Diagnostic which can be accessed by booting off your Windows DVD, choosing your language/keyboard options, and clicking the link Repair your computer at the bottom left on the Install Now screen. When prompted select your Windows Installation and click Next, here you can select the Windows Memory Diagnostic option.

Please note:

Quote:
Memory checking programs are not adequate because they don't test the memory the way that Windows uses it. Most, if not all, memory checkers use read/write cycles when scanning memory. Since Windows is executing code from the memory, it uses execute cycles. Execute cycles are physically different from read/write cycles and are more vulnerable to parity errors. It is possible for memory checking programs to find parity errors if the memory is extremely faulty.
To work around the above, test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module, swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules, run each one singly, swapping between slots; and then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.

If your RAM tests OK, test your HD. Check out the drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics: Hitachi/IBM
