I have discovered neither Firefox or Mozilla will run SWF files for me.

I cannot find the Plugins in Firefox but, Mozilla shows a x-shockwave-flash plugin and it says "Enabled "

I am using the latest versions of both Firefox and Mozilla because I just started using them about 2 weeks ago.

For the record, I am using Windows 98 SE

I do web sites for fun and recently purchased a program called SwishPix which makes wonderful little slide shows for web sites.

After you select the images, Swishpix automaticallly generates a .SWF program and the HTML file to run the .SWF file.

A 4 image slide show I created with SwishPix is at:.... http://www.rsmyth.net/sw-pix/sw-02.html

Another I created which contains about 50 images is at:.... http://www.raysmyth.net/50-wed/zz-50wed.html

Just today a friend sent me e-mail with a web site located at:... http://www.managedmusic.com/beforeyougo.html

The web site my friend sent me has a slide show but, I have no idea what generated the program.

I cannot get Firefox or Mozilla to run any of the above slide shows or any others.

I provided the slide show addresses so you can test the same locations I am having the problems with.

I have no problems running these slide shows (SWF) with IE 6.0 or Netscape 7.02.

I am sure it is me but, need some help figuring out what I need to do. I did search previous threads but, didn't find this particular problem.

    Thanks,

    Ray,
I am using Firefox1.0.7, and I just checked the second link. It is beautiful!
Music and the moving pictures of the Arizona Memorial. And, quite a Mustang!
Most likely you installed Mozilla and Firefox after installing Shockwave. The latest version of Shockwave is 8.0.22, and it should drop a npswf32.dll file in the plugins folder of both Mozilla and Firefox, if installed after the browser.
I thought that Firefox may look for the plugin, but I don't count on it. Typically, I either reinstall the needed program or, just copy the needed file from one program plugins folder, and paste it into the other. See what you have in the NS7.02 plugins folder, and, try that. If that fails, you should try to download and install the new version of the Flash Player .

    Thanks Westside,

As you suggested I simply copied the " npswf32.dll " file from the plugin folder of NS 7.02 to the plugin folder of Mozilla and then Firefox and it fixed both programs.

Hard to believe that one little dll file made a whole other program work.

Although I can't remember when or how shockwave first got installed, but, you were also correct in your assumption that I installed Fx and Mozilla after the shockwave got installed and apparently the install did not pickup and load the current files.

You would think in todays computer world all these necessary plugins would somehow be made part of the install function.

But, then nothing is perfect and things are fine because I'm back in business with Firefox and Mozilla and can once again make one of them the default program.

As previously noted I've been using Netscape since about day one but, am now trying to switch.

I would like to go with Firefox and Thunderbird but, strongly dislike the attachment window being on the bottom of the page in TB so, until they provide an option on that, I think I will settle in on Mozilla as the default or perhaps I will use Fx to brows and use Mozilla as the default mail system.

Let me also say thanks for the slide show comments. Our 46 year old son spent 4 years restoring the 66 Mustang and the Arizona Memorial pictures were made last September when our 3 kids sent me and the fat lady to Hawaii in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary.

    Again my Thanks,

    Ray,
I served, lucky me, at Tripler Army Hospital during the Korean War. I still remember that place, even just the location, without the Memorial.
As for Thunderbird, i am so used to changes, that I take everything in stride, unless it does not work.
As for the plugins, Firefox1.5 should be able to find the programs (plugins) without having that small file in the plugins folder (Tools|Options|Downloads|View and Edit (Download)Actions should work without the .dll files, but, as a matter of course, I copy the entire plugins folder from one program, and paste it into the other. Occasionally some old .dll are not compatible, but this habit of mine has saved me a lot of time.
But, Mozilla will not do anything more than it has. Check what you have by typing:About:plugins in the URL bar. Compare Mozilla with NS7.02.
Just for the record, there have been at least 12 updates to Mozilla since NS7.02, to have the present Mozilla1.7.12. Netscape7.2, or two extra updates is the end of the line for the Netscape suite
