TonyT, I just concluded a thread under Malware; but this RAS Async Adapter doesn't seem to be of much consequence in this machine running clean. At least we got Windows Firewall settings up. Going up to your post Number 18, I went into Services and the middle one I could not stop. The one above was already stopped and I was able to stop the third. Should we try to get the RAS Async Adapter off, or leave it disabled? Now, in Control Panel, it runs Internet Connection Sharing before bringing up the settings.

Just set those services as disabled and reboot, they will not start at boot. I would also disable the firewall and ICS too before rebooting. It will not hurt to have no firewall for a bit.

What exactly causes ICS to open?

Sometime Windows Firewall settings do not open right away; but it asks to enable Internet Connection Sharing. Until yesterday, I could not access the firewall settings at all.

OK, now disable the firewall service and don't try to open it. After that, can the computer connect to the network & Internet?

TonyT, that is not such a good idea after what I went through with broni on the malware forum to restore the Control Panel, Security Center so I could bring up those settings. Without that I could not turn off Windows Firewall.

TonyT, yes, and I don't want to mess with my XP now that I can get into Windows Firewall settings; otherwise I would never have been able to shut it off.
