I'm a little pressed for time currently, but I will look into this and read everything more carefully and alert the beta team to any conflict we find here or have found in the past. When I posted my last post your's was not there then. My OS in XP Pro on my laptop and I have a XP Home on my desktop, both look the same when I open them. But before I say anymore, I'll look into it when time permits. The forums I use to communicate with the beta team are not the ones Geri used.

I am curious and would like to know if your problem is the same as mine.

Go to Control Panel, then go to Performance and Maintenance and then go to Scheduled Tasks

Is there a task titled MP Scheduled Scan if not go to the Advanced tab and click on view hidden tasks

    Now it will be there.

Right click on MP Scheduled Scan and select properties.
On the Run As: Line Does it say something other than
    NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.

If it does not say NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM it will not scan by schedule.
The problem is that you Cannot change that line.

There is a solution but I have not been able to add the correct new user to make it run. I don't now what user name to add. My last post has the link with the directions. The one that ends in 884573.

Thanks for your time Skipslot, but Microsoft is aware of the problem and A "Hotfix" is available to people who have retail versions of Windows XP. Mine is an OEM from Dell. Microsoft only supports reatail versions. Microsoft does not provide support for any other version of Windows (other than updates). I've already called and E-mailed them. They politely said "go away "

Alicia J, if your version of windows is a retail version there is a fix available for you, contact Microsoft.

Your problem is different from mine, you might want to try scheduling the task manually at the Scheduled Task folder.

Under File, then New, then Schedule Task or at the top of your scheduled tasks is an Add Task button.

I've been through this all before. Read through my original thread, it might help

I just manually scan every couple of days.

Both my laptop and desktop are OEM versions and neither appear to have a problem, at least in the posting of a scheduled scan in the home section of defender.

My affiliation with the defender beta team comes working with them on Windows OneCare beta. I am still in contact with several of the team members on the beta and they communicate issues to the defender beta team.

In reference to the above, for your information, mine says Laptop/Owner.

    Hi Alicia J

Just a thought, Do you have the "Real time protection on "?
I found that windows defender would not auto scan with this disabled.

Skipslot if your still here, the following is the exact error I get after Windows Defender Fails to scan.

    "MP Scheduled Scan.job" (MpCmdRun.exe) 9/1/2006 7:00:00 PM ** ERROR **
    The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed;
therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account
    information existed for the task.
    The specific error is:
0x8004130f: No account information could be found in the Task Scheduler
security database for the task indicated.

So if anyone whats to figure it out there it is

Oh, I'm still here. Just not sure now what to do or if I can do anything. Mine appears to be working, but my system was modified in order to get OneCare to run during the beta stage. I'm currently wondering if one of the modifications would work for you. OneCare does support Defender as a part of its package and the updates go through onecare to get to defender. So I'm not sure it will work.

Its just a challenging problem. If and only if your bored see what you can figure out. I really don't mind manual scans.

I'm back in school so I have little time.
