    New Edit

Welp after much reading and searching....ughh all the further I have gotten is I think I have decided on a Athlon 64 3200+. Now to decide on a board and go on from there :D hmmm 754 or is it 755? or 940? If I understand correctly the 940 has to have specific memory (ECC Registerd RAM) and the 754 can use standard DDR 400 RAM. Hmm what to do???? Welp I am off to do some investigating and I can tell that if this thread runs to much longer it might get CLOSED LOL :) The choice has been made and i am going with the......drum roll please....

K8V-SE Deluxe Motherboard (Athlon 64, Socket 754, K8T800, ATX, 3GB DDR, 800MHz FSB. not bad for $114.00 at ZipZoomFly

    Good? NO? :D

Now for memory and drives:( be back later!!!

Have a wonderful day all of you

    Regards,
    FIREDANCER ;)

Glad to see the Athlon 64

That board is a great board for that price. Now for RAM if you want performance i would say go with 2 x 512 of Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6 t1 or the OCZ Ehanced latency Series 2-3-2-6 t1. For hard drives maybe a Western Digital 250gb 7200rpm SATA either model wd2500jd or the wd2500wb. For a DVD burner perhaps a NEC or Panasonic. I hope this helps. :)

    Hi all,

First off I want to say I am very sorry for not posting back sooner as I have been swamped with my business and it has been non stop since I last posted here about building a system. As for building it I have been so side tracked I will have to start over and start researching again as what to buy and get the best preformance. I did want to appologize though to all of you that posted I feel like I left you all hanging.. and still havent acommplished a thing :(... owning your own business can be brutal but very profitable :D and I guess that makes it all worth it though. I will get something set up sonn and let you all know thanks again for all the input.

My Very Best Regards to you all,
    ~FIREDANCER~

    Welp,

So far I am leaning twoards this for starters.....

ASUS K8V Delux Socket 754 mobo w/ AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor. $427.00 at TigerDirect.

    Good? No Good?????

Still seeking info and specs as well as price on the 64 3800+

What I have found is that it only supports DDR 266 (PC 2100) Unbufferd memory

    Good? No Good????

    Thanks,

    ~FIREDANCER~ ;)

    The food for thought

Well I found the 3800+ is a socket 939 and is around 642.00us and with the new socket it supports all DDR in even in Dual Channel. About the Asus board for a total of 420us you can get a K8N-E Deluxe which supports all DDR1 and 64 3400+ At newegg.com

    Hello all,

Well after doing some searching and reading all your post this is what I have come up with so far for a shopping list....

    MotherBoard

ASUS K8N-E Delux NVIDA n Force 3 socket 754. The reason is it supports DDR 266, 333, 400 Ram and has a max of 3GHZ . I feel after reading on it it is one of the best mobos for the money.

    CPU's

Ok, now for Procs... hmm tuff one but I have chosen 2, AMD Athlon 64 3400 + at $375.00... have been told overclocking would give me close to what the 3700 + puts out in preformance. The second AMD Athlon 64 3700 + at $510.00... a bit more spendy but wouldnt have to over clock any thing here :D

    Memory

Going to pony up the cash and drop it on 3 sticks of Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed series 184 pin DDR 400 (pc 3200) low latencey. $345.00 Ea. I figured if I was gonna build something might as well stuff the box with as much as it will hold huh? :D

So far I am up to $1682.00 dollars for these items maybe a bit less depending on the proc I go with.

    Video Card

    GForce 6800 128 MB DDR 256 Bit 8 X AGP $280.00 Dollars

    Power Supply

Themaltake 480 watt ATX 2 fan supply $55.00 Dollars

    Themaltake Case

    Black Aluminum V5000 + Cooling system includes ... 2 X 80MM fans, 3 X 90MM fans. Drive bays Ext 5 X 5.25 2 X 3.5 Int 3 X 3.5

Still have not chosen HDD's or reader/writers but will use Rockster's suggestion for Lite-On 16x48 Lite-On DVD and the Lite-On 811 or 812 DVD/RW. My neighbor uses them and swears by them as well as stateing just as Rockster did and going with seperate drives. ;)

LOL, I think my $2000.00 budget just went up another Grand but oh well I have worked hard on my business and darnit!!! I deserve it!!!..to bad my wife doesnt aggree!!!! she will see things differantly when she sees we can write it off :D

Any suggestion and or explinations on HDD and what SATA and Raid are or does and how it might benifit/not benifit me would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    ~FIREDANCER~ :)

If it's dual channel wouldn't you have to use only 2 sticks?

    ssmith10pn,

ummmm I am still learning about certain things if I understood right when I read.. a 1 gig stick and 3 sticks would make 3 gigs am I wrong?

Just looked at the manual and 2 things stuck out.

1, There is no way to use 3 sticks of RAM and acheive 400 MHZ

2, The corsair is not on the manufacturers list of tested RAM.

Don't pay me any attention but I dont have a warm fuzzy about this.

Traditionally on a 800 MHZ FSB board it requires two identical 400 MHZ chips running in Dual Channel mode to acheive 800 MHZ.

I have no idea how they are doing this without dual channel.

Just like a Democrat vs a Republican I guess but I crossed over from AMD to Intel and I havent seen anything to make me go back anytime soon.

My system in my sig flat out rocks and I have no desire to change platforms anytime soon. Im not big on video games but this thing flys on anything I do and I havent even played with over clocking much.

Might want to spend some time on www.tomshardware.com before you go throwing down 2000 bucks.

Im sorry for my ignorance but you lost me in your post. As I stated I am new to all this and it will be my first build actually that why my thread title says in it Need advice.

What manual are you refering to?

I dont understand, how does 3 sticks of ram at 1 gig each make 400 MGZ? I thought 3 sticks at 1 Gig each made 3 gigs. I have to mis understanding what I am looking at.

What manufacturer are you speaking of? Corsair? or?? Is there something else I need to read and learn?

I was just going by what ASUS states for specs on the mobo
ASUS "K8N-E Deluxe" NVIDIA nForce3 Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU -
    - Specifications -

Supported CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor
    Chipset: NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb
    FSB: 800 MHz
    RAM: 3x DIMM Supports DDR266/333/400 Max 3GB
    Slots: 1x AGP 8X/4X, 5x PCI
    Ports: 2x PS/2, 1x COM, 1x LPT, 8x USB2.0(Rear 4), 1x IEEE1394, 1xRJ45, 1x S/PDIF Out, Audio Ports
IDE: 2x ATA 133 up to 4 Devices
Onboard SATA/RAID: 2x SATA RAID with 0,1,0+1 by South Bridge, 4x SATA RAID with 0,1,1+0,5 by Sil 3114
    Onboard Audio: Realtek ALC850(8-Ch)
    Onboard LAN: 1000 BASE-T Ethernet
    Onboard 1394: 2x ports by VIA VT6307
    Form Factor: ATX

    From Firedancer's last post:
Did I mis speak or not understand what I could use for memory in this board?

    Memory Expansion

The K8N-E Deluxe provides 3 DIMM sockets using 184-pin DDR with a total capacity of up to 3GB. You can install unbuffered ECC and non-ECC PC3200/2700/2100/1600 SDRAM memory.

    Chipset
The K8N-E Deluxe motherboard is based on the nVidia nForce 3 250Gb chipset. It supports AMD Athlon 64 processors with a FSB frequency of 800 MHz.

The cpu I was speaking of.. will this not work with the above mobo?
    AMD Socket754 Athlon 64 3700+, 2.4 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor

Again I am not sure what it will actually run at but it says board has a FSB of 800 MHZ and the proc specs says FSB: Integrated into Chip. Are they not related?

No trying to argue your intelligence with pc's cus lord knows its by far way bigger then mine I am just trying to understans so I can build a really good pc.

HE HE HE I got ask.... are you a Democrat or Republican? ;)
    dont answer that LOL j/k

    ssmith10pn,

My appoligies, and thanks I learned something new!!!! :) I think LOL. I read pages 33 and 34 and I now understand what you are getting at. Seems to me if I am looking at the memory config right

the best you could do would be single side useing 3 dimms max speed DDR 333.

Or you could use duel sided 512 in 3 dimms max speed DDR 200

didnt see any DDR 400 useing all 3 dimms :(

I did see Corsair at the bottom of the list twice single sided 256 and duel sided 512 the 256 would be a max speed of DDR 333 and the duel sided 512 would be a max speed of DDR 200.

What does DDR stand for and in this case which would be better? less memory or a higher DDR?

    Regards,
    ~FIREDANCER~

I didn't think I could do a good job of explaining DDR so give Crucial the credit for the answer.

What is the difference between DDR SDRAM and SDRAM?

Most desktops and laptops use one of the two most popular types of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) for the main system memory. Single data rate (SDR) SDRAM is the older type of memory, commonly used in computers prior to 2002. The more current type of memory, double data rate (DDR) SDRAM hit the mainstream computer market around 2002 and can be found in most new computers.

DDR SDRAM is a straightforward evolution from SDR SDRAM. The big difference between DDR SDRAM and SDR SDRAM is that DDR reads data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, so the DDR module can transfer data twice as fast as SDR SDRAM.

I'm still researching your motherboard. Been kind of busy to look very long.
