My HPP2015dn network printer has been USB connected to my Verizon FIOS Gateway router for 2 years. Lately the router port goes inactive much more frequently, perhaps after an hour's inactivity, and I have to power cycle the printer to print something. I know how to access the router and display connections, but I don't see a setting to keep a port open assuming that's even the approach I should be taking. Any suggestions welcome.

Look for Sleep Mode type of options for the port on the Modem and the USB ports on the computer.

If more than one USB port, try a different port. I would also go with a different USB cable.

Have you tried power cycling the Gateway router?

Power cycling the router did not change the connection inactive interval.

Trying a different port on the router didn't help either. The timeout varies but tends to be in the 30 minute range. It used to stay active for days.

The router connects directly to the PC doesn't it? If so, look at that port of the pc for power saving mode.

The printer, which has given me office-quality robust service for 12 years, is now more frequently giving me fault indicators for its roller, paper and toner as I keep power cycling it. Time for a new one. I'll close this thread with thanks to those who responded.
