Hello, I've been having problems with my spacebar for about two weeks. I've deleted the keyboard from the device manager hoping that when I restarted it would work. Nope. Before I did that, I changed the keyboard on my laptop. Didn't work. I'm operating Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Can you help? Thanks

Hi Dcmurray, Can you supply the Model # of your Laptop. Toshiba list 43 Satellite Models. Have you tried their user Forum? I would suggest a new keyboard would fix your problem. Neil.

Have you tried an external keyboard to check on spacebar operation?

Not a keyboard issue by the looks of it, something in the OS.

Bit of a longshot, but I wonder if you have sticky keys or filter keys turned on. Found this here ....

This is weird - nothing specific on Google aside of hardware issues with the keyboard.

Could be worth running System File Checker - sfc /scannow

Start > Run > CMD > Run as Administrator > UAC OK > sfc /scannow > Enter and let run to end of check. Neil.

Does the space bar work in Safe Mode? How about when you boot into the BIOS Setup Menu? In particular, the BIOS Setup Menu, is not dependent on any specific drivers. If the space bar with both keyboards does not work in the BIOS Setup Menu, then there is definitely a hardware issue with the motherboard's keyboard buffer/interface.

If you hold down the Alt key and from the numeric keypad enter 255, does the cursor move over one space?

Hi Bill, Space bar has started working since I went into safe mode. It worked there and it worked in the BIOS setup menu too. Maybe thats all it took. Seems to be fine now. Thank you everybody for your help! Neil, I couldn't figure out how to run as administrator. Thanks anyways! Sure is nice to have this forum as a reference tool.

And now it works fine when you boot normally into Windows? If so, that is odd, but I am glad it works, and hope it keeps working.

Generally right click on an executable file (.exe) and click on Run as Administrator.

    For System File Checker ....

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right click on Command Prompt - run as Administrator.

Just as a little update, I tried to remove the new keyboard that I bought to return it, I reinstalled the old keyboard and the issue came back, I went into safe mode and it still didn't work, so i reinstalled the new keyboard, now everything is fine. Odd. Thanks again!!!
