I've just bought the low end eMachine el1200-06w which adverts it's a 64 bit processor, below:

    http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=EL1200-06w

but when I run the tester at
    http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/xp64.php

it tells me its a 32 bit system and to only download the 32 bit updates and stuff. Anyone know the story on this? Label on front says AMD Athlon 64. I'm googling for a site that will check for a 64 bit system but haven't found one.

No it is not. You are running a 32-bit Windows version, your hardware is 64-bit!

HI YI YI...Now I'm back to square one! The reason for the Q. was I'm thinking of laying out $50 for the VHC 2 DVD program to get my old tapes onto DVD, some of which are old Disney tapes. The program says "for 32 bit only ".

So now it seems to be a toss-up since 'version' or 'type' or 'op system' isn't spelled out. Well, many of those old tapes are 30 years old or more and I do want to save them so I may as well throw the 50 and find out....

Your OS is 32bit (which is what your program wants)

Your hardware is 64bit and can run either a 32bit operating system (which is what you are doing now) or a 64bit operating system which your VHS to DVD program won't be happy with.
