Resolved Computer reboots repeatedly just before welcome screen

Do you think if I deleted or renamed the windows folder from the hard drive and try another reinstall if that would correct the problem?
I was able to install windows on a smaller harddrive and connect that one to the system as well so I have full access to it only in Safe Mode though cause in Normal mode it hangs just after it reaches the desktop.
I might have something wrong in that I never had to hook up both IDE and SATA drives in one system. The small harddrive is IDE while my original drive is SATA. Any suggestions?
Additionally, are there any tools that might be able to correct or check out my problem on the original harddrive that would run from Safe Mode?

Here is the latest in this saga. I was successful in installing XP on the original hard-drive. I renamed the windows directory windows.old and used yet another CD with XP. The installation surprisingly went perfect without any stoppages (imagine that after all that I've been through).
Now that the installation went through I have encountered another problem which I have taken the liberty to forward on to the Malware and Virus Removal section.
When ever I get to the desktop and start to operate the computer it reboots unexpectedly. I could be doing anything from browsing through folders, just moving the mouse, typing on the keyboard and the computer would stick or for the most part reboot in my face.
I try changing keyboard and mouse again without any success. Actually, I could leave the system idle and come back and find it black (stick) or it would just reboot for no reason. To me that sounded like Malware or Virus behaviour or both or even a combination with faulty drivers or something. Obviously we need to get to the bottom of this but at least I feel as if the worst is over since I have all my information (I don't mind installing all my software over) but I want a stable system please.
I have already sent off my post with the required information so I await your response.

From past experience here, I know that I have to ensure that I have a clean system before I proceed to try to fix issues that may be Malware or Virus related.

P.S. Right now I am presently using Safe Mode to send off this since its the only environment that is stable for the time being (at least for these actions).

This has likely been mentioned but it could be a failing Power Supply unit (or bad RAM).

 

Tanya, thanks for your comments but I have changed my power supply and have swapped RAM so I am pretty sure that this is not my current issue.

I suspect that form reading other posts that it could be a fault which occurs after installing XP SP3 on computers - which could include Driver issues.

I disabled automatic restart and the BSOD was a Stop: 0x0000000A error (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL).

I posted to the Malware and Virus Section and just a report that there were no visible security issues from my DDS logs so I think we can pretty much nail it down to the installation of XP and possible issues regarding it.

Additionally, I tried a clean boot state that doesn't seem to have corrected the issue.

I await you'll comments.

 

I have had some restarts since I last posted so I have a dump data log for the last dump. I also want to state that I am having the USB issue which I think might be the cause or one of the causes, because when I use my mouse it sticks occasionally and when I unplug USB mouse or sometimes plug it in the system reboots.

Have you uninstalled / reinstalled audio drivers?- I found this: under the dump file error above "ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for ALCXWDM.SYS" ALCXWDM.SYS (audio driver)

I am not running Windows 7 so I was just wondering why you sent me the links. I think you might have misunderstood when I mentioned in an earlier post that I installed Seven Transformation Pack which I believed caused my original problems before I had to reinstall Windows XP SP3.

As it relate to the audio drivers, I installed the drivers after I completed the XP installation. Should I reinstall the audio drivers?

As you mention this started after the Windows 7 Transformation Pack which seems to have had lasting effects even though you are no longer running it....

I cannot really follow the sequence but did you eventually use a different hd to instal xp sp3? (i.e. completely remove every bit of 7?)
If not, I would use a new drive, and do a complete new installation of XP (even though you did rename windows etc.).

Following the above (if this was not done already), I definitely would remove the audio drivers, download a new file and instal the drivers (in safe mode if possible) Are you using new drivers for the mouse and kb?

When you restored the registry, was the "Last Known Good Configuration" from a date preceding the windows 7 installation?

 

Oh my God, you've really got there. I think one thing to do might be to get a technician to have a look at the problem or, (but not advised) to try and sort it out yourself. Note: you could try going into Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly before the Windows OS logo and then go to System Restore and restore your system back to a good state. But unfortunately that's not advised as you could completely wreck your system!
Sorry, but I simply don't know.

From reading an excerpt from the Log file (debuglog.txt), I can see that your memory is corrupted and that you need to either update your drivers or make new addresses for your drivers to run on (sorry but I don't know how to do that myself!). I think a professional needs to look at this...

I did install XP on a clean hard drive, that is how I was able to rename the windows directory on this hard drive. Honestly, I haven't used it much but I will put it back in by itself and see if I have the issue just to refresh my thoughts before I update this post again.

What I can say though is that I swapped keyboard, mouse and RAM and still have the rebooting/hanging issues. Not ruling out anything that you'll have said but I am inclined to think that the issue or one of the issues is Driver related (USB for sure as one culprit) because the only way I was able to temporarily curb the issue somewhat was to stick a flash drive in the USB port and restart. This has been working somewhat even though it hasn't corrected the issue but at least I can get into Normal Mode and do things for the most part without it rebooting/hanging in my face.
I am using a PS2 keyboard and USB mouse at present. I have used all different combinations (PS2/ USB mice and keyboards) without any success. Yes the computer can reboot/hang at any time but I am able to do things for the most part.

On the USB note when I try to use different drivers from other XP CDs they resort back to the version that is installed on the computer so I don't know what to do there.

I will reinstall the Audio Drivers immediately and see how it goes.

As it relates to the Registry restoration, when I first encountered the problem and couldn't get into Normal Mode I went into Safe Mode and used WinRescue XP to restore my registry etc (System Restore was turned off) and that did not correct the issue, cause obviously that only dealt with the registry so my system files that Windows 7 Transformed would have been still there. When I rebooted everything was worse which lead me to reinstall/repair XP and during setup I encountered hell with blue screens until I renamed the windows folder and used a different CD it went through perfectly.
On my first restart after installation I realised that as soon as it got to the desktop it kept restarting so I disable restart to see the errors which the last one was posted earlier. I have more of them if you'll want any from previous dates or even the first one that was created.

I know for sure that Windows 7 Transformation Pack messed up my system and I don't understand how it affected Drivers (USB and maybe others) and so forth.

Thanks for your input. I am going to plough on with checking out the Driver issues and see if I can correct all those issues to see if the problem goes away permanently.

 

Hi! all. I am not a computer geek but one suggestion. Did you check your CPU and main fan of the system. Sometimes there is so much dirt on it and not cooling. That is the reason that systems are unexpectedly rebooting.

IMHO, it is (as you say) a driver issue (see below)
Also I think poorly designed / corrupt programs (e.g. drivers) can mimic memory issues.
And incompatible drivers can cause what seem to be mem errors
IOW I don't think it is a hardware issue right now...

Get the essential new up to date drivers from their respective Web sites. (Who's the OEM?)

I wouldn't hold my breath. (I think you should follow below)

I may be wrong but software can corrupt other s/w (i.e. win7 TP could have installed its own driver which won't work with xp sp3 - and the drivers may have remained - I don't know if you used a brand new drive (still don't know).
Since the Windows 7 Transformation Pack caused the problem.

IMHO, you need to do a complete format if you are going to use the same HD.
I write this having on 1 occasion reinstalled windows 98 SE following every step (but a quick format) and remnants of the problematic Windows 98 SE OS remained....

Have you contacted the computer manufacturer? Or looked at their Web site?

Start from the very beginning. Do everything in order.
You are getting great suggestions but if it was me, I'd focus on 1 method and after that fails (if it does), start on another.

Starting with a new harddrive. - follow the drive manufacturer's instructions...
Install win xp sp3

(You could always keep the original drive (someone mentioned way back) to use it as slave).
Reinstall drivers (new ones)
The drivers on your cd may not go with sp3 - I don't know

A tip - when you are installing software (aside from the OS), and the program asks you if you want to restart, click "no" and then restart yourself. (IIRC, the shut down - restart will be under the control of the OS and not under the driver or whatever program's control).
Another tip - I shut the system down each time after I install something. IMHO the ram will be completely cleared, and starting again (cold reboot) will allow you to see if the last device was the cause or not.
(Again I'd contact the maker and ask them for advice).
