I am posting this thread up because i want to see what processors people like (Intel or AMD). I am building a system but cant decide between the CPU's.

Just post up your computer Stats and tell us how you feel about both CPU's.

    I like AMD

I have an AMD 3200+ on a pcchip crappy board (will be changing out mobos soon) 1gb of OCZ XMS memory 2 x 512, LG Burner, Posiden CPU/GPU/NB/SB water cooling system. Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card. Nvidia 5900XT. NEC 19 in flat monitor.

I used to like the Intel chips but lately it is AMD all the way. More bang for the buck. With the new 64s and Socket type Intel is behind AMD for once.

    DOWN WITH INTEL......

Well if I want to build a reliable workhorse for an office enviroment or a home user that will never crack the case open, I'm going to use an Intel PIV and forget about it.

A gaming machine for a tweaker or over clocker is a diffrent story.

AMD for the last 5 m/c's I've built for self and friends. Well satisfied - £'s less for much the same, especially if you are not a gamer.

Previous machine AMD 1200. Currently Intel P4 2.8HT. Next machine maybe AMD? After that maybe Intel?

    Does this help! :D

I built my first system last fall with and AMD Athlon XP 2500+. I now have it overclocked to a 3000+ with an easy change of the multiplier (although I hear AMD had locked it so you can't do this anymore). Anyway, I've never regreted using an Athlon. I got P4 2.8 performance for about $100 less! :)

AMD, baby, all the way. I have an old Thunderbird, and it out performs the newer "faster" Intels, hands down. I'm not a gamer (unless you count Spider Solitaire) and I don't overclock. Don't have to. The next comp I build for myself will NOT be In-Hell technology, either. No thanks.

I've been running AMD for a while at home and have no problem with them. Performance for the buck they are great.

However, for reliability you can't beat Intel Motherboards. If I went Intel it would be for the motherbaord rather than the CPU.

Been building my own boxes for years. Always intel on mobo's w/intel chipset.

Have been hankering to try an AMD build and am just getting ready to try my first.

    Suggestions???

I've built both over the years (20+) and at the practical level There's no difference except in price. AMD has more bang for the buck. Without benchmarks, I, and I'm sure anyone else, can't tell the difference.

For the builder, I suggest the mobo is much more important, it should be jumperless, that is, having software control of the clock and voltages, and a manual that is understandable, not pidgin.

Also important is the case and psu which must have adaquate working room and power. and no sharp edges. Everyone hates cuts and skinned fingers. One needs provision for several fans and ability to route cables to avoid obstructing air flow.

    AMD vs Intel

AMD in a cakewalk! Why pay tons more for less performance? The AMD XP-2500 (Barton) seems to give the best bang for the buck--$87 retail version (3 yr warranty) at NewEgg.com. If bucks are no problem, probably the XP-3200. I'm using the XP-2500 on a Biostar M7NCG with Nvidia Nforce chip and on-board Nvidia graphics and 512M RDRAM--this machine gives me everything I want and then some and I built it for less that $300 including DVD player and 52-32-52 cd burner.

I try to only use AMD CPU's when I build a customer a computer. I had a guy
that only wanted me to use the P4 3.2 PresHott  LOL!! for his build. Well
afterwards he wished he'd went for a AMD CPU after he seen how HOT!! it ran
and the benchmarks from it. I benched my little ol' XP2500+ @3200+ and it just
about kept right up with his 3.2 in the benchies except for the memory benchmark
it blowed me out of the water on that one. :( Well he came back the other day
wanting me to build him another rig with an AMD64 3800+ Newcastle socket 939
he said that he had the other rig sold and that he was giving up on Intel from
    now on ;)
