How thorough depends upon what kind of information you've had on the hard drive. But like Billy Bob, I'd low level format and reinstall.
Does the DVD player support jpegs? Are the photos jpegs?
Look for a freeware PRIMO PDF. It'll convert any printable Windows file to PDF. It works like a Mac, the option is a PRINTER option.

I think the PS2 may be both regionalized and the PAL/NTSC thing. My nephew has a Japanese version of PS2 and they do NTSC.
