In July I bought a new LED monitor. In the default settings, colours are normal. But if the brightness is reduced to 50% from 75% (the default), the whole image will become dark and thus no characters can be seen. I guess it is because of the poor quality.
Please tell me whether you can still see the characters in the above image with 50% brighness and what monitor you are using.

What was your brightness? Could you see the characters with 0% brightness? What was the lowest brightness with which characters could be seen?

On my monitor, with 50% brightness and 85% contrast, the black numerals on the white background can be seen clearly, but both the dark green characters and the light green background above become black, i.e. no characters are visible.

Please set your brightness to 0% again with 85% contrast, and tell me whether you can see both the black numerals and the dark green characters above them.

Yes, I can read it all easily with the brightness at 0% and contrast at 85%.

And, I can still make out (read) the dark green characters with brightness at 0% and contrast at 15%. (The black and white is no problem at all at this settingl). If I lower the contrast to 10%, it's pretty difficult to try and read ... unless you get extremely close to the monitor.

In the past, I was once banned from this forum because I had posted a link to a poor-quality product I had bought and I was then mistaken for a spammer. Would the same happen if I posted a link to my monitor in question?

Bravo LED monitor. It is the product name rather than the brand name, which is a local brand in Hong Kong where I live. I just found that information by Google is in Chinese which you don't understand.

How would you describe the problem with my monitor? A defect in colour with low brightness? I am thinking about whether it is possible to post the problem on local Chinese forums as as to warn others.

What are you trying to accomplish? It seems to me you are creating the problem. Why are you changing the settings from the default if the display is correct in the default setting?

Note on my two monitors I have connected to this system, brightness is set to 100% and Contrast to 80%.

    And this page looks perfect.

It is definitely not the case. My two previous monitors did not have such a problem.

It is glaringly bright in the default setting, so I have to reduce the brightness lest my eyes be hurt.

If you mean something like this 12.1-inch flip-down overhead monitor installed in place of a sun visor in a car, the problem could be due to intense bright, outdoor sunlight. As a test, how does it look at night?

I do know that it's next to impossible to use my laptop outside in the sun ... simply because the sunlight is much brighter than the monitor could ever be.

I don't mean your above-mentioned monitors. My monitor is used indoor only, away from sunlight. So, it looks the same by day and by night.

The brightness is usually set to 0%, but the backlight is still bright enough, just the colour cannot be displayed properly.

And how old were your two previous monitors? Old monitors did not start out as bright as today's monitors, then dimmed as time moved on.

Unless you actually got a faulty monitor, I personally think you are just not used to this new IPS panel monitor and its "improved" illumination qualities and vastly superior contrast ratios (which can definitely make whites "appear" brighter).

Since you just bought this in July, take it back. Or ask to try a different one to see if the monitor, or you is the problem.

How are you connecting? I recommend via digital, in your case, DVI.

Then I agree with Bill, sounds like you may have a defective monitor.

The screen is already bright enough with 0% brightness. If the brightness were 75% (the default), it would be glaringly bright enough to hurt my eyes.
I can surely tell you that I was completely satisfied with them, no any problems with brightness and colour had arisen.
I can never get used to its glaring brightness.
I took it back and tried a different one of the same model, which had the same problem. Only one model (with different sizes) was available. The technician regarded the problem as 'normal condition'.
    DVI.
On local Chinese forums in my city, I found two other 'victims' who had discovered the same problem. All Bravo LED monitors are defective. I wish there were other channels by which I could spread the word.

Lastly, could Bill do the test mentioned in my post#5 and tell me the results? What monitor is Bill using?
