My problem started one night a few months ago, when watching a film from my pc on to my tv, everything was going ok then it started to freeze for a second or two with the audio sounding like a robot then continue playing ok and would start repeating it every so often, so, i tested all my hard drives with DSKCHK, no problems, did a check with seagate disk test all ok, did a memtest all ok, did a graphics stress test all ok, them one night i was going through some audio tracks and the robot sound appeared on them, so i thought that rules out graphics side, i even swapped from motherboard audio to a soundblaster card and did it on both, i deleted MPC to VLC same on both, i even did a windows xp repair, still happening, i even found a asus motherboard test but nothing on that, all drivers up to date, i recorded on my cycle cam but i cant upload as i cant see an option which replicates the problem, can anyone identify whats going and how i can sort it, any other info required please ask.

If you watch the film on your PC do you experience the same issues? If you don't look at the connecting cable to the TV and check out the TV if possible.

If you have another PC - laptop - see if that has the same problems.

I hear it - not an audiophile, but it may be a buffering issue. How much RAM is installed?

Do you still have the problem if there are no other programs running?

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

System Details - you omitted the final step....
The data you supplied does not show any issues as far as I can see - it would be very helpful if you could determine if the film played on another computer has the same issues - if it does this would indicate as issue with the file.

Regrettably no 'instant fix' for this problem - you seem to have checked out all areas on the current PC.

I have no real idea as to what might cause the effect.

Is this just at that point (40 sec) or does it occur with all films you watch?
Is it regularly at every 40 sec of sound track?
Are you on the Web when viewing this movie?
Can you try on a later PC with say W7/8.1 and see if it's just related to your XP unit? Neil.

ok, i tried with the same film on all the hard drives, my 1tb drive did the robot bit which is my D drive, on my E drive it Did not do it, which i thought was odd, when i tried on my C drive (XP Sys) it also made the robot noise but had a more pronounced and slightly louder clicky sound, my other pc has win 7 and ok on that, so i think its nothing to do with the film which is stored on the drive and not watched from the internet, its not every 40secs its more like every 10 mins when it happens, i have also noticed im getting a horizontal tear in the picture on the tv which is connected via Hdmi, but not on my monitor, dont know if its connected anyway to my original problem.
Also got this in the event viewer which seems to correspond when starting the film, Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DCOM
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10005

The event viewer error has been sorted, it was the WIA in services, what that had to do with starting a film i don't know as its something to do with cameras and scanners, still doing more tests.

Tried again, and the WIA didn't make any difference, it still does the robot sound and picture freeze at the 10 minute mark, i don't know what else to do, i did another Seagate test for windows and am getting passes on all tests, and another Furmark graphics tester, i think its either the Windows XP, graphics or motherboard, motherboard would probably get worse and then just die is my presumption, but im swinging more towards the Windows XP, i would like to get the Windows 7, but want the one that can go on any system but not sure what edition i need, obviously i don't want to be spending money hand over fist and finding the problem persists.

Well, tried the other graphics card and was still getting problem and on pc monitor, so i would guess that rules out the graphics side, im going to do another windows repair later on take it from there.

Hi andsaw, I Googled your M/B for Reviews and there are many unhappy users who have experienced some really odd problems. There are others who love it and have had little problem.
My point, the board was introduced in 2008 and it may be worth considering a new upgrade that will work well in future OS's. You could speed up your unit by changing to DDR3 (2x4GB's max) but I would weigh this up carefully.
Last year I bit the bullet and made the move to better boards and new parts when building a new comp for myself and one for the wife.
I donated my older units to the Sallies to make money out of.
I have 4 HDD's that I can run in this comp. One Vista Business, one W7 Pro, W8.1 Pro and one with W10 Preview. All 64 bit except the Vista.
Your choice - as I feel you may have an odd problem in the M/B which you may never cure. Neil.

Thanks for that input Neil, i had a sneaking suspicion it could be the m/b, and not worth the money to get it tested, what board did you go for, and any recommendations as i don't know what to go for as this is a minefield, as this board was recommended to me from a friend who used these at work, all input will be appreciated.
