    Hello all!

I've recently encountered a problem with receiving emails from my (72y/o) mother with pictures she has sent (embedded in the email).

When she sends me an email, I can read the text just fine but her pictures do not show up (no red x, no placard, nothing). My sister receives the same email from her (she addresses her email to both of us individually on the same "to" line, not as a cc or bcc) and she sees them just fine.

When I open my email program (Outlook.com) and I see an email from her, if it shows there is an "attachment" (the paper clip thing) then I know she has included a picture. But she doesn't send the pictures as an attachment, she embeds them in her emails.

My sister can view the email with pictures (embedded in the email) just fine and if she forwards the email to me, then I can see them!!

Think this all started when Mom's computer "crashed" and she reinstalled/restored some of her programs. (Not sure what steps she used to accomplish that). She (& my sister) both use Outlook Express (ver. 6 I believe?) on their Windows XP computers with the same ISP provider. I use Outlook.com with my Windows XP computer, although I also have a laptop with Windows 8.1 and still am unable to view the pictures (I have a different ISP provider.)

I never used to have this issue prior to her computer crashing, so don't know if it's some setting on her computer or mine? Just thought it was strange that my sister can view them and I can if she forwards the email to me.

    Any suggestions as to what we can look for? If my sister wasn't able to view them, I would suspect Mom's computer, but when I can see them if she forwards them it has me totally stumped! {And that really doesn't take much ;)}

    Thanks all!
    ~Vicki

Did you look at the attachments? Often times even embedded pic get converted to attachments since they are basically attachments.

I sent myself a test letter, with an embedded photo in it, from my Yahoo account to my Hotmail account, and the photo appeared in the body of the test letter. I saw the paperclip icon before opening the letter too. I also downloaded the letter to Windows Live Mail with no viewing problems either.

Maybe there is a setting in your Outlook account that is blocking the image from your mother's address for security reasons.

    No luck

Went out to visit with Mom yesterday and we did a "test" for her sending me emails. (She has another computer with Windows 7) that I could access my outlook.com emails from.

First she sent an email with a picture embedded. It showed the attachment (paper clip thing) in my inbox, but when opening the email...nothing showed.

Next she sent me an email with a picture as an actual attachment. No problem viewing it then (once I clicked on the attachment that shows up in the letter after opening the email).

So I'm still uncertain if there's something in Outlook.com that's blocking her embedded pictures from showing up? I've tried adding her to my "safe senders" list, but that apparently didn't make any difference.

Guess I'll just have to tell her to send her pictures to me as an actual attachment. :( But at least I'll get them.

She'll eventually start using her newer computer (with Windows 7) so she won't be able to use Outlook Express much longer anyway. She's still struggling somewhat with learning on that one....don't blame her, I have the same problem getting accustomed to my new laptop with Windows 8.1 and will eventually have to figure out what to do about getting a new desktop as well!

Thanks for taking the time to try and help with this, but I'm thinking it's a lost cause.

Windows Live mail is similar to Outlook Express in many ways, although the menu items resemble the ribbon in Microsoft Office.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
