Is there a way to clear history items in this situation? I don't have access to change the option.

On the menu bar, tools--> internet options--> select the "general" tab--> and delete under the header "history ". it also gives you the option to delete the history every time you exit the browser, just click that little boxy box.

Are you talking about the "clear history button ", it's grayed out, and the days to keep in history is grayed out

You haven't mentioned which operating system and version of Internet Explorer but in WinXP/IE6 the path to the history folder is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\History

There should be subfolders named "today ", "weekdays of the most recent week ", last week and so on. See if you can delete them all (if that is what you want to do).

Are you referring to the side panel that appears to the left of the screen when you click the history button?

I am talking about the toolbar directly beneath the address bar (where you would manually enter a web address). The toolbar that says "file edit view favorites tools help ".

I know, when you go to tools/internet options. There's a button for history and # of days to keep in history which is grayed out. (It's my computer at work).
It must be version 6 of explorer because it's different from the options on mine at home which is version 7

Your systems administrator or IT guy may have that disabled to track where employees are surfing.

Exactly! And we wouldn't want to help you circumvent company policy.

I'll try that, but I may have restricted access. I don't have administrator priveleges. They just recently grayed out the clear history option.

Then it looks like you are running on a restricted user account and we wouldn't want to help you out with getting around those restrictions especially in a work environment.

Ok, no problem, I'll just try to minimize my usage.
