The PC I use now runs on Win ME and OE6. I bought another PC and it has Win XP. I need to move my e-mail stuff to the new PC.

My old (present use) PC OE6 files I found are in:

    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{4DD7F08E-6F24-40C9-A188-89FE689C9395}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

    And they are:

    cleanup.log
    Deleted Items.dbx
    Drafts.dbx
    Folders.dbx
    In2004.dbx
    Inbox.dbx
    Offline.dbx
    OldMessages.dbx
    Outbox.dbx
    Pop3uidl.dbx
    Sent Items.dbx
    Sent2004.dbx

I would like to have access to all of these folders & files with the new PC and continue using OE6* for my e-mail activities. I already copied the folders to a 6GB USB external drive that I use for backup and transfers, and I am ready to paste them onto the new PC, but I don't know where to put them.

    Help please?

(* FWIW, some people have advised me to switch to Outlook, but I am used to OE, have used Outlook, and still like OE6 better.)

    Thanks

    Alex

Make a folder on the new PC and copy them there. It can be anywhere you want it to be. Then, on the new PC, open Outlook Express and click file>import>messages. In the window that opens select Microsoft Outlook Express 6. In the next window, put a check mark in the box next to the line that says import mail from an OE6 store directory and then click ok. Then in the next window browse to and select the folder you made that has your old OE files in it. Once it's done you can delete the folder with the old files in it.

Zander beat me to it :)

For another method look here - Complete or Clone Backup - takes everything across.

Since I also wanted to copy my addresses, settings, etc., I used the "official MS procedure" as referenced by Jim; I didn't know that it existed.

It all worked well - I can now fully use the new PC, and have all the messages, contacts, etc.

Thanks to one and all -

    Alex
