I am using Xfinity Comcast home page which has an xfinity powered by Google search bar. Recently when I use search I have had the following problems: In the main search window I type in the search info I am looking for(ex tropical fish) click on search and nothing happens. Instead, when I click, a small white gloved hand appears-with a small yellow star and within the star a red exclamation symbol. Sometimes when I hit search, I get a page of links to sites. When I click on any of the offerings (ex petsmart) nothing happens except the small white gloved hand with the yellow star and red exclamation mark. Finally--I have scanned the forum and could not any like issues. When I tried to click on "Read this first..." before posting I got the same thing described above. I called Comcast and got a low level tech and she didn't have a clue. Also in the same period of time--I don't know if it is related--but I opened my Avery label pro program which I use often and it would not open full screen and then would not close. I had to restart the computer to close it. Same thing happens every time I open it. It seems like something is going on and I am very very careful where I go on the internet and what I download. Any help or comments on possibilities would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Recommend reading this post and then posting the requested log(s) in our Malware and Virus Removal forum.

If you are still having the same issue after being given a clean bill of health from one of our malware experts, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you/them solve the problem.

    Search Problem

Hello Doc and thank you for your response. In your note there were 3 links.
    1. "This Post" 2. "Malware and Virus Removal" 3. "Microsoft Safety and Security Center "

I was unable to reach any of them because of the same problem I described in my post. Clicking on all 3 of the blue highlighted links produced nothing more than the white gloved hand with a very small yellow star with a red exclamation point in the star. I have Malware Bytes anti-malware on my computer and yesterday I ran a quick scan and today a full scan. Yesterday the program quarantined 8 PUP.Optional.FunWebProducts.A --most were "Registry Key category A PUP.Optional.searchprotect.A a PUP.OPtional.Incredibar also a couple PUP.Optional.ConduitA and PUP.Optional.Mind Spark and today PUP.Conduit.A

Would you be able to provide the link for "this post" and the other 2 links so that I could type them in the address bar--if they might help me get to the bottom of this. It seems I must be infected--is it likely I can get out of it without having a computer technician come out? Thank you again very much for your response and any help or advice you may be able to give.

I read your message more carefully after my last post--I was upset I could not use any of the links and posted that response. Tomorrow I will look for and read in the malware and virus forum. I am not sure what you mean about getting a "clean bill of health" but will probably understand better after I get to the forum. I will then-as you suggested-return to this forum--hopefully a little more aware of what I may be facing in trying to get rid of whatever is causing the problem. Thank you again. Bill

To Doc & all others who responded to or read my post: I am very sorry I have not been back sooner to advise that my issue has been resolved. I hired Computer Handyman of MD Service and he got rid of the virus or whatever it was that had attacked my PC and made many links non responsive. He thinks it came in a download from an internet search. My wife's step mother fell and broke her neck and we were out of town and have been very busy this past week or I would have advised sooner. Thanks to all who tried to help. Bill
