I use AVG free set to update daily for anti virus
I also (likely paranoid) use Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy with Tea Timer on a regular basis.
Rarely have problems. When I do get problems they usually originate from my keyboard.
I have a dual partition laptop. For my VISTA partition, I run Norton Internet Security which includes an anti-malware feature. For my Windows 7 RC partition, I use Windows Defender.
Note - on Win 7, I also use Avira Anti Virus (free), and the Win 7 firewall combined with Vista Firewall Control to allow me to customize my outgoing rules easily.
Norton Internet Security 2009, does idle scans if pc idle for more than 10 mins, has a Insight program that scans known programs and depending on how well they're trusted it doesn't scan them every single time, making scans faster and also does a full system scan automatically whenever pc is idle for long enough to do it or you can ask it to do one, liveupdates on a streaming method, so can update multiple times a day and not just once a week, very impressed with the new things put into it and is great program as hardly uses any resources and have even played Sims 2 with it running in background and talking on MSN and no problems at all.
I use LavaSoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Microsoft's Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, WinPatrol and MVP Hosts file.
Also, CCleaner...frequently and ATF Cleaner about once a month.
Sometimes i also use Uniblue SpyEraser and Registry Mechanic.
I use McAfee Internet Security Suite and Webroot's Spysweeper (which is about to expire). They never find anything of any substance. Once Spysweeper expires, I'll probably go with the freebie: Superantispyware.
avast! personal resident with automatic updates twice a day
Ad-Aware a coupla times a month
MS Malware Remover just once each time there's an update
ATF Cleaner at the end of every session
