Firefox 3.6.16 is opening either minimized (invisible) or maximized. It won't allow resizing of its window by clicking the Restore box in the upper right-hand corner. This just started two days ago. I don't want to upgrade to Firefox 4 yet because some of my most useful add-ons aren't compatible with it.

Is there a fix for it? Thanks!

The next time you open it, try manually dragging it by one corner to a maximized position and then double click the top bar to settle it. Then close and re-open the browser to see it that remedies the situation.

Thank you for your suggestion. The problem is that when Firefox window opens minimized (I can tell the window is "open" minimized because the Firefox button is visible on the Windows taskbar) there's no way to grab a corner because there's no window. When it opens maximized you can't drag a corner or edge because that's not an option in the maximized state. If the window would open even to a small rectangle, I could drag a corner or edge and make it into an intermediate size, but because of this ridiculous situation, there's nothing to grab or drag in either the minimized or maximized condition.

BTW, I've closed and reopened Firefox a number of times, I've rebooted Windows a couple of times, I've run it in Safe Mode, and I've re-downloaded and installed Firefox over itself, and all these steps have made no difference. The only way I can open the FF window when it's in the minimized state is to press Alt+Spacebar to open its context menu and select Maximize. The Restore and Resize commands are grayed-out and unavailable. When I open the window's context menu when the window is maximized, the Restore command is available, but not Size (Resize), and if I click on Restore, the window goes into the minimized state.

Click on the shortcut and select properties.

If this shortcut is pinned to taskbar, you may have to click on the pinned shortcut and right click>scroll up to "mozilla firefox" shortcut and then right click on that and select properties.

Once you get the the properties on the shortcut to popup select the shortcut tab and in the dropdown for run select "maximized" okay or apply and close.

also have you tried just double clicking on the top most band which has the right corner minimize\restoredown\close icons? Double clicking should either open maximized or restore down.

    Goddez,
You certainly have lived up to your screen name! I followed your instructions and lo and behold, when I double-clicked on the maximized windows header, there appeared a small (about 1 inch square) Firefox window in the upper-left corner of my screen, which I then was able to resize by clicking and dragging on a corner. Whew!!! At last!!! I've got my favorite size window back. Thank you very much! :)

    Hi,
I have a similar, but slightly different problem. When I launch Firefox it maximizes full screen on my right-hand monitor. When it launches, I can see a miniature version of briefly, but it quickly disappears. Right clicking the Firefox task on the taskbar gives me only the choices close, minimize, and restore. Single clicking the Firefox task on the task bar alternately minimize and restore the window.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Hi Joe, Welcome to WindowsBBS :D

I'd suggest you start your own thread.

Your issue is similar but not the same as the OP's and as this thread has been marked resolved there is less chance of anyone looking in to help.
