Hi, my names David, I have been recieving pop up ads from zipzappromos, i notice this a day after my brother used the computer, i found the instant acess symbol and removed it at the add/remove option at my computer. Like a week later my mom wanted me to show her some things on the net so I did, than a porno ad poped up and i was embarreshed. Since than i have been reading information on the net to try and remove this adware. I have used my mcaffe virus scan, aol spyware, adware remover, and cw shedder, nothing has worked, i have just downloaded killbox, regsearch, and reglite from reading the posts from other people who needed your help. Please to anyone that can help, please help me through the steps to remove this thing from my computer. Noah I have seen you work miracles, you are the God of Computers, please help me too, thanks.

Thanks for the kind words, and welcome to WindowsBBS David :)

Save this to text where you can access it in safe mode.

Download HijackThis.exe from here. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT) and run it from there. Do not use the one you currently have.

Unzip the Pocket Killbox files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rusvbhmze.exe

Check the box to delete on reboot and click the red X to the right. Click OK, then NO to reboot now. Copy the next filepath and paste it in the box, and repeat the above steps. When all of the below filepaths are done, close the Killbox.

    C:\WINDOWS\Downlo~1\EGDACCESS.inf
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\EGDACCESS_1057.dll

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode. Logon to your user account.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files and extensions for known file types.

Open RegLite and copy/paste the following string in the address window then click go.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The forum format puts a space in the word current that you will need to edit out before clicking Go.

Right click the "rusvbhmze "= "c:\\windows\\system32\\rusvbhmze.exe -start" value in the right pane and delete. Then copy/paste the following.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\qjpcbtsnx

Right click the rusvbhmze key in the left pane and delete.

    Exit Reglite.

Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and click OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Upon reboot you will be greeted with a message window from the System Configuration Utility. Check the box not to use and don't show, then click OK.

Go to the Sun Java Website and update your JRE. Current is 1.4.2_07

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log. Let us know if the popups stop.

I am new to this board and joined it because of the very problem you're having. I am definitely not an expert at cleaning this stuff up but, with the help of the posts from this board, I was able to successfully remove Instant Access from my computer today. Sure felt good to get rid of that thing, been working on it for over a week. I did a lot of the things that you are doing (reglite, regsearch, killbox), and I'm not exactly sure what cleaned it up. But it does seem to be gone now after several boots. In addition to things found in these posts I also:

    1. Download and run Spy Sweeper, it detected Instant Access and did remove it successfully but it always came back after a reboot. One thing I noticed is that there is a trusted site key somewhere in the registry that Spy Sweeper found and deleted
    2. Download and run the new Microsoft Beta AntiSpyware software. This also seemed to clean it up but it also came back after the boot.
    3. So, for a few days I had it cleaned up with these two programs, but it always came back after a reboot.
    4. Then, I finally started doing things in safe mode and this seemed to make a difference. I ran the Microsoft Beta program in safe mode. Then cleared out almost every temp directory that the windows search tool could find, including hidden directories and files. Also cleared c:\Windows\Prefetch and emptied the recycle bin. I don't believe that I ran Spy Sweeper in safe mode. But I did run it after booting back to normal mode. That's when it found the trusted site registry entry I described earlier. I'm not sure why Microsoft didn't find that key and delete it.
    5. I'm not sure if steps 1-4 is was what cleaned it up, but I have a feeling that may be all that was needed. I went on to do some other things that may have been unsafe but, at this point, I didn't care anymore. Just wanted to get rid of this thing. I ran hijackthis and deleted something associated with an internet explorer plugin that it found. Didn't seem to destroy anything. I also examined my CurrentVersion/ Run entries in the registry and cleaned these up a bit, also. I did find one entry that seemed suspicious, so I deleted it. It was some gibberish named program in Windows\System32 that didn't exist, so got rid of it.
    6. I think this is all that I did. In the end, things finally cleaned up.

    Hope this helps.

    Fix the following with HJT.

    O16 - DPF: {26D73573-F1B3-48C9-A989-E6CE071957A1} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binari...ESS_1057_XP.cab

Open C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 (hidden files/folders will need to be shown), select all and delete.

    Empty the recycle bin.

Reboot and update the Sun Java. Reboot again and post a new HJT log. Please do not edit it in any way (makes it harder to read).

Looks good. Re-enable System Restore and create a manual restore point. Also recommend you download Spybot Version 1.3 from my signature and install. Allow it to load SD Helper. Open it up and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install, enable all protection and update. Check for updates regularly. Then, still in Spybot, click tools button, then IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file.
Then download IESpyad, double click to extract, open the folder, double click the ie-ads.reg file and allow it to merge into the registry.

That will give you some added layers of protection against unwanted parasites.

Glad I could help, and I appreciate the sentiment. :)
