    Hi

    several posts recently by people troubled by these...

    ...am interested to find out what the "bolt-on" mechanism is for this - is it an unpatched browser thing again?

    best wishes, HJ

    IE has two fundamental flaws, one is ActiveX, and the other is scripting: java script - vbs script.

    Which of these is the culprit, I don't in this particular case, I don't know.

    Hi Charles

    many thinks for the reply;

    I'm always interested in discovering as much as I can about the "bolt-on" mechanisms to help avoid letting these pesky things in

    two sides to this coin:

    "internal factors ", things I can control : keeping patched, security settings, firewall rules, hosts file;

    "external factors ", the environment or set of circumstances : malcode on web pages, poisoned banner ad servers :( yikes! - or just "social engineering" factors, the "lure" or disguise, human nature - things which purport to be "clean up tools" for one scam conveying several more...

    the external factors I find truly fascinating, becuse of the sheer level of intricacy involved - mindboggling sometimes, the multi-part nature of some of the scams... the amount of energy that must go into setting them up! Cynically, the implication is that finincial gain of some kind must be the driving force... let's face it, money drives most things in this funny old world...

    ==

    from what other people are posting it looks like avoiding this particular nasty is highly preferable to having to expurgate it afterwards ;) "life's too short ", as they say...

    very best wishes, HJ
