    Hi

I have downloaded some updated drivers which are zipped. I can unzip them BUT I am really confused at all the files there are i.e. which one do I use to update the driver ?

.exe is much easier - I really am confounded when the folder opens to lots of files - I don't know which one runs the set up

Grateful for any advice - Thanks in advance.

    You seem unfamiliar with ZIPS.

The first rule in dealing with zips is to move them to a folder by themselves for unzipping. One zip file could hold thousands of files so you would not want them mixed in with other files on your computer.

But now that you have unziped use START-RUN to browse to where the files you unziped are and it will only show the executable programs. Typically these will be something like "Install" or Setup ".

    Thank You

Very useful information ..... I am glad you realised that I am not sure about .zip files ........

I would much rather ask even if it is basic as that way I will know for sure what to do with them - Thanks for understanding this.

Once you have the files all unzipped and in their own folder, you may discover that there are no exe files to run. In that case, look for a file with ending .inf. Right-click on that file and you will see an "Install" option.

It is still the best idea to do the installation from the Device Manager. Right-click on the driver you want to update, send it manually to your folder, and it will find the .inf file for installation.

Unfortunately, they are not all installed the same way :( .

    Thank You

    Hi

I am going to need a new file for all the very helpful tips I have gleaned from this forum.

I really apreciate all the advice. If possible I will find .exe drivers BUT if not at least I know there are ways to install the unzipped. I also know the reason for having a folder to unzip the files to.

I could not find a .exe for one driver - just a zipped one yet a friend was able to find the .exe - I think I will need a map to find the easy install versions.

One more question - is it best to install a 3rd party .zip progam to either zip files myself or to unzip ??? I know XP has it's own .zip but have read that there are better ones.

Hope you don't mind this extra question but really I am learning from the answers ;)
