The title says it all. I can stop it if I click, at the correct moment, on the red X at the side of the browser's address box.

Most infuriating and I have no idea how to stop it doing this.

    Can you help please?

My OS is XP SP3 Home with all critical updates. Browser is IE8.

The only fix I have found for this is to delete your browsing history, cookies, temp files, etc, from the tools tab, Internet Options.

This problem appears on many forums, but most are over a year old and some suggest this is due to yahoo themselves not your system or settings.

Maybe another member can suggest other fixes.

    Thank you markmadras.

I found that in Firefox it doesn't happen. Neverthless I have deleted all those files. Let's see if there's any difference .....

... no, I've just tried. It's the same in IE8, but is ok in Firefox.

Try this: In Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>General tab and under "Browsing history," click on the Settings button.

In the window that opens, under "Check for newer versions of stored pages," check "Every time I visit the webpage," click OK and OK. Changing that settings has stopped pages I regularly visit that like to reload from doing so.

I've decided it's to make sure you get any ads that didn't display the first time around. That may or may not be true but it gives me something to gripe about.

I tried that Miz. It seemed to work ok at first, but perhaps that was a fortuitous anomaly - it's just the same again now.

No, it's only with Yahoo Mail.

I am running out of ideas but this may be related to an add-on in IE8.

    Please follow this.

    Click start,

Click Run, then copy & paste this command into the box and hit enter.

    iexplore–extoff

This will open up IE8 with no add ons, try your Yahoo mail and see if it has stopped the problem.

I have just done that but the system responds with a window stating

"Windows cannot find 'iexplore-extoff'. Make sure you typed the name correctly .... " etc etc.

 My mistake, there needs to be a space between iexplore and the -

    Try this

    iexplore -extoff

    Ok, thank you.

No, it's still the same with all the add-ons disabled.

Strangely, just once in a while, when I go to read my Yahoo mail, the page loads normally and stays as it is. I haven't associated this occasional normal behaviour with anything else I or the PC does.

I am now out of ideas, all I can suggest is that you completely remove IE8 and Yahoo Mail and then re-install them. The only other possibility is that you have some malware in the system so you could go to our Malware & Virus forum and have your PC checked out.

Just incase you have concerns, the next time you open IE8, the normal way, the add-ons will be automatically reactivated.

I had begun to think that myself. I shall try reinstalling IE8. I don't think there's any Yahoo bits resident on the machine; isn't at all on Yahoo's servers?

Yes, your probably right, the Yahoo should go with the removal of IE8. Then, as I said, if that doesn't work go to the Malware and Virus forum and follow the guide.

Removal and reinstallation of IE8 has not improved matters.

I shall open a thread in the Malware forum.

I ran some software laxative programs.

Trend's Housecall flagged up two problems. I had to leave the PC. Upon my return they had been removed. I could not find a log so don't know what they were.

Suffice it to say that I haven't seen Yahoo Mail's continuous refresh since then.

Yes, I have been a user since soon after it became available.

That, with IObit's Advanced System Care Pro and XP's firewall are the only security programs permanently running.

I have others which I run once in a while.
