I have win98 and winXP installed on my PC and can boot to either one (from the menu XP provides at boot time).

Now in Win98, I went into Yahoo chat and was prompted to install the 2 required components (Yahoo Chat and voice) the first time I accessed it and it works fine, both test and voice (use Internet Explorer 6 there).

    NOW!

When I boot over to XP and enter IE6, then access the Yahoo Chat page it tries to load the java applet (I can see the coffee cup appear briefly on the top left and the rest of the box is grey) but then bombs with the error:

    "Unable to load appplet "

It also says you may have to update Microsoft VM and gives an Url but VM is no longer supported, so that means nothing.

SO, as suggested to me by others, I downloaded the latest version of java from the Sun website and updated it, BUT I still get the same error in IE6 in winXP?

I've looked at my IE6 options and java and java scripting ARE enabled. What else can the problem be?
Why does Yahoo chat work in IE6 in Win98 but not in XP?

I've accessed other web pages with java applets on them and they work fine, so what gives?

IS there a way I can reinstall IE6? (or uninstall and reinstall it)? I have a feeling something is messed up that possibly a reinstall might fix...

    Halp!

There are links to places to download MS Virtual Machine on this page.

Or you can try the links on this page.

A simple way to reinstall IE is to do a search of the harddrive for the "ie.inf" (without the quotes) file, right click on it and click on Install.

    Excellent!

Downloaded VM (couldn't find it anywhere before) and installed it and now the chat works fine. Thanks!
