I hope this query is appropriate for this area of the forum-I am using WinXP Home Edition:

"DHTML unable to load correctly(no pop-up object)"
"DHTML unable to load correctly(no voice object)"

These above(and new) error msgs I get when attempting to run Yahoo!Chat v(2.0). The only recent change I've made to my system is upgrading from Symantec Internet Security 2002, to 2003.
Is there a setting or something else that would/could cause this issue?? I don't think* its a 'firewall thing' at this point, as the older one(Internet Security 2002) worked fine with Yahoo!Chat, and I think its set up the same.

**One thing I niticed in the browser's "Downloaded Program Files" is a file called "Java runtime Environment 1.3.1" and it says the status is "damaged ". Is this file a possible culprit, or even a related file to using the Yahoo! Chat program? If so how do I replace it?**

I was using the Chat module prior to installing the newer I.S. 2003, but have no idea if its a coincidence or possible cause.(?)

(NOTE: THE OLDER 'JAVA' VERSION{selectable, but inferior!} OF "YAHOO!CHAT" WORKS FINE WHEN SELECTED. I just don't like the older version. For the record, if you ever 'chat', the newer version 2.0 is a big improvment. )

*Thanks in advance, for any possible insight into the newer Yahoo! Chat software, and any help identifying what might be causing the above error msgs ! *

PS: I contacted YAHOO! via their web-site, and was given some rather 'generic' things to do and troubleshoot, but to no avail. They are VERY hard to make contact with, for tech support...

Since lots (most? all?) DHTML scripts are written in Java, I'd say you are probably on to something with the damaged Java piece.

You might try start~run~cmd and do chkdsk /f to see if XP can repair the damage. It might and certainly harmless to try.

If not, probably a complete Java reinstall and if that doesn't work, remove existing and install (but I'm not at all sure removing Java wouldn't ding some stuff up).

I strongly suggest that if the chkdsk /f doesn't fix things, you download the Java stuff, disconnect from the internet, disable Norton, and then try the install.
