    Hi all,

I didn't know what to title this.

Anyway, I cloned my C drive to a slave drive: all was perfect. I want to clone my C drive again (as a backup), however, my old C drive was 3.5 GB and after cleaning and deleting stuff I didn't need anymore, my present C drive is 2.9 GB.

When I run XXClone again, will it wipe the extra .6 GB?

If you're asking about replacing the first slave drive - yes - when you clone you get an exact copy of the original.

    Hi Steve,

Yes, but the drive I'm cloning to is .6 GB larger than the drive I'm going to be cloning from. Is the extra .6 GB going to be wiped or will the extra .6 GB still be there?

Cloning to a large drive is fine....And you should get the whole thing.

Cloning to a smaller drive can be impossible in many cases.

Where are you finding hard drives in the 3.5gig size range? Those are generally 10+ years old and slower than heck.

    Hi Steve,

Sorry for not being more clear:The Partition on my old C drive (the one I'm going to copy to) has 3.5 GB of info\progs\OS, etc.

The Partition I'm going to clone to the old C drive has 2.9 GB of stuff.

My inquiry is: What happens to the extra .6 GB? Is it wiped or is it still going to be there?

The .6gb should be available for use after the clone process.

That's what I'm trying to suss out: That extra .6 GB on the target drive are uninstalled\deleted programs, etc., that aren't on the drive I'm cloning.

I've never used XXClone, only Ghost 2003. I'm confused by this discussion but I understand it as the 3.5/2.9 GB being data sizes, right?

Are you cloning disk-to-disk or partition-to-partition or are you creating an image?

How large is the source disk/partition?

How large is the target disk/partition?

What is the data size on the source partition?

What is the data size on the clone?

If XXClone works in a similar way to Ghost 2003:

If you clone disk-to-disk or partition-to-partition, the data on the disk/partition is replaced completely. If the data size on the source fits on a smaller target disk/partition > it works fine but not if the data size on the source is larger than the size of the target disk/partition.

The program can not compare the content of data and keep the "missing 0.6 GB ", no way.

If you create an image, the previous one is left as is and a new one is created.

    Hi Christer,

You're absolutely correct. I ran XXClone and when I clicked "Start ", it gave me the message "Deleting\Wiping Target Volume ". It then proceeded to clone the C partition. I did the same with D and E. I booted to the slave drive (the one I cloned from the main disk) and it operates exactly as it should.

So, XXClone does wipe the target drive before copying\cloning.

    Thank you for your response.
