    mb: asus p4p800-e deluxe
    uP: P4 2.4 ghz, 800mhz fsb, 512k internal
    no overclocking going on.
PC idling on desktop, I plugin an older Intel Netcam to install drivers, and notice the pc is locked up. I press the reset button. PC doesnt post, but begins power cycling off, then back on, off then back on, off, on and I turn off the psu at the rear of the case.
I remove/disconnect all but ram, video card, mouse & keybd and speakers. Apply power and Asus AI post reporter announces "System failed cpu test ", over & over.
So I cannot connect any dots between usb device & uP failure. The only common component is the mobo. I would like to hear some ideas as to what you all think happened.
Right now I dont trust either the mobo or the uP.

Just a shot in the dark but clear the CMos.

To do so unplug the computer, remove the battery, and move the jumper on CLRTC.

Dont feel bad I have the same board with a 3.2 that has failed (I think)
Im not getting any failure message but mine will reboot over and over.

    Hi

I was thinking that maybe something had "popped" in the power supply system.

I was able to have a look around today and found this:
    http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?threadid=224154
They had success with changing the PSU.

Here is my search page in case you want to read some more:
    http://au.search.anzwers.yahoo.com/search/anzwers?p=asus+failed+CPU+test&y=y&search.x=40&search.y=14

You could try borrowing another PSU to test before running out to buy a new one, if you are not certain that is the cause.

(42,000 hits, ssmith10pn seems right about it being an Asus motherboard symptom  )

    Matt
