My XPP machine wont shut down because Yahoo wont close. I click on Turn Off and the closing program window appears, counts down and then disappears. The computer then sits there without shutting down. The machine is a clean install of XP with not viruses etc.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Hi cspgsl. Read this, Enable a faster shutdown in Windows XP.

Also after following the instructions in the link I provided click Start< Run type regedit and press enter. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Click on desktop and in the right pane find the WaitToKillAppTimeout value. Right click the value and select modify. The default value is set to 20000. Change the value to 2000 and click ok. Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
