XP won't show all my memory

    3.25 gigs is about all you can see or use with a 32 bit OS.

    Because i am only useing 3.25gb of memory will the other 4+gb be ok still slotted in the motherboard

    Don't even consider it even if it is still available. XP x64 was a rushed OS so that MS had an x64 OS and you will find that drivers and the like are scarcer than hen's teeth :) Not sure if MS still suport it.

    Go for Vista x64 or wait for Windows 7 x64.

    Is anyone familiar with ubuntu
    Whilst looking at my cd collection i have came across ubuntu-8.10-desktop-amd64

    I have never used ubuntu
    Is this anygood, If i was to insall it, it will only be for a few months until i can get what i need.

    If i was to insatll ubuntu will i get all updates and will my internet protection work with it like avg

    Ubunto is a Linux OS, it's not the same as windows and although easier nowadays Linux can still take some getting used to. If you were thinking of switching to linux permanetly or dual booting I'd say go for it.

    As a temporarily fix though it's probably not worth the hassle, by the time you're used to the OS you'd probably be dumping it for windows 7.

    With the info you have given me i will be getting Vista, and will stay with what i have for now
