I have a peer to peer network between 4 machines all running windows XP SP1. I recently installed a program to keep my contacts organized wich requieres me to have a central database on one of the computers and the rest of them access this database on the main machine. My problem is that when I turn all the clients on after having the main box on, Win XP will show an "X" on the mapped drive from the main box; then if I try to acces the database the software will simply tell me that the database is unavailable. Double clicking on the mapped drive from My Computer gets rid of the "X" and then shows me the content of the drive, and then the program works fine...Why is XP not reconecting at logon or if it is why is it showing me the "X "???

    A little of network info:

    Running DHCP
    Linksys Router
    TCP/IP
Even enabled Netbui from the XP CD to see if it worked...no success.:( :( :(

    Good morning AlmaX

I know of 3 things that will help and maybe fix it.

    1. In services disable and stop drive indexing. Optionally turn off Disk performance counters. Type diskperf /? at command prompt!

    2. my computer disconnect the drive, remember mapped drv letter and share name.

    command prompt
    type

(use proper share name and drive letter below)

    net use f: \\hostcomputer\d /persistent:yes

if you use static ip on the host computer then a little faster use

(get Ip of computer you are connecting to)

    net use f: \\192.168.111\d /persistent:yes

    3. Add the host computer to this local computer's lmhosts file
    see this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q101927&

I would do all 3 steps. Including the Diskperf if you do not monitor it.
