If you are using WinXP's firewall it may be blocking.

    You also need Java enabled.

keithsince1959--A recent Windows Update causes quite a few problems. It is a long shot, but may be your problem. Try the fixes here
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165
Or, easier, uninstall (from Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs) and then reinstall.

keithsince59--Control Panel|Add/Remove (check the box "Show Updates" at top if not already checked). Scroll to end of list "Windows XP--Software Updates ", find KB908531, click on it, click Remove. Wait for procedure to reach conclusion (908531 will just disappear from the list). It will not hurt to reboot.
Do you still have the problem?
If not, you have found the culprit.
If you still do, well, I tried. :)
In any event, you probably should reinstall this Update. MS made some changes since the original version.
And you should install Windows Updates, in general. Most are really quite important. But some people do wait a few days to see if the "pioneers" report problems.

keithsince59--Thanks for posting back with the solution. All's well that ends well.
Did IEFix cause uninstallation of any previously installed Windows Updates? (It should not, but I was just curious.)
